What makes one rod a 6wt and the next 3wt. Is that actually the weight of the rod?
Its the weight of the line that allows the rod to flex and cast correctly. That is how it gets determined if its a 3wt or 6wt. If you put 3wt line on a 6wt rod the rod will not flex and load correctly in order to cast the line. If you put 6wt line on a 3wt it will flex too much (possibly break the rod) during the cast. You need a rod to flex and load correctly in order to get the power to cast the line out.
