I have been in the pre-contemplation phase of attempting to design a streamer that can be crawled right on the bottom at a turtles pace without snagging as the colder months often demand. Don’t know if it will work or not as far as avoiding snagging yet not making it unreasonably hard to hook a fish.
The dream would be something you could crawl over structure on the stream bottom with the same weedless/snagless ability as a texas rigger soft plastic or jig and pig with a brush guard. obviously any not fully exposed hook will sacrifice some hook up ratio. However, i’ll take a couple missed hook ups if the frequency is not excessive and I get more time in the strike zone without snagging and breaking off every 20th cast dredging bottom.
Submit your flies made to this end and the winner will have the honor of watching me change one feather, then claim it as my own design with a patent, come up with a catchy sexually inappropriate kelly gallup-esk name, and then watch me sell it to Orvis.
On your mark, get set, go
