My favorite pack pairing for fishing mountain trout streams

My net solution when using a backpack is I put a carabiner on the waist strap on my non rod hand (left) side. I attach the net with another carabiner. It sits roughly on my left hip and is out of the way of my casting side. This solves the issue of it being on your backpack on the center of your back and being hard to reach. I have it on a magnet release with a stretchy cord, but the carabiner serves as a safety to keep it attached to me if I drop it in the water or it gets stuck on something while hiking. Another reason to buy a backpack with a good waist belt IMO.

Many times on small streams I don’t carry a net too, but when I do, this is the best backpack net solution I’ve found.
