Minor rant and then a question?

Dear Tom,

Thanks for that second suggestion too. At those prices for a factory 2nd if they last a season I'm good.

I haven't bought a new fly line from a shop in over a decade. That's why I was so surprised at the price increase and the change in length for many lines.

I've had great luck on various message boards buying NIB lines for half price or so but lately the pickings have been getting slim. I need a couple of DT lines and it seems that almost nobody uses them anymore?

Regards,

Tim Murphy :)

I got that sharkskin line for free otherwise all my lines are DT. I just find it to be very versatile.

The guy with the 2nds..use to ship for free and jam as much as he could in an envelope and send it regular mail. Might want to poke around his site..whenever I get stuff there I buy more than a few things since the shipping was free.

hmm...never heard of Redtruck...looks good, thanks.

Owned by Leland. They have some crazy deals in their clearance section some times. Got to move quick on the great deals and you gotta be ready to get am out of stock notice from time to time. $5 flat shipping is pretty sweet.

Tangent: THe new leland clicker reels are seriously sweet lookin' reels. Not for $300, though.

Our local LL Bean does not have stacks of old line to sell, just SA Mastery, and only for like $20 off, not enough to excite me. I was hoping it'd be like years past.

Edit: Ya, they are nice looking. Give it a year or two and they will be at redtruck for 50% off.

THose are different, they look like their Abel designs, but produced in Korea, they're sold as the Sonoma.

The Leland reel is the Classic Click, http://www.flyfishingoutfitters.com/fly_reels-leland_reel_company-classic_spring_creek. Its pretty.

Ya, I edited when I saw that Leland reel. Very nice. BTW, you link is broken.

DT taper lines are getting harder to find, although I still prefer to use them.

I love double tapers I have 'em on my 2wt,6wt,8wt and 4wt. I don't see any draw backs between them and a wf. But it is easy to see the advantage a dt has over the wf. The ease of mending, roll casting and my half a*sed single hand speys a dt makes them easier.

Leland has got good video's on their site. California dreaming. Top shop too, btw.

I bought an AirFlo Ridge Line on eBay last night from Bear's Den Fly Co. This is my third Ridge Line from this source. I like the line because it has a surface pattern (ridges) that make it shoot like the sharkskin line and I always seem to be able to find it somewhere in the $35 range.
