Can anyone give me info on fishing Mahoning Creek in Armstrong County? I'm interested in the section below the dam to the Allegheny.
Thanks, just checked it in the trout stocking section of PFBC regs. Will make a scouting trip, I've been to that area in the past on non-fishing adventures. Most stuff I'm finding is about the lake, but if it's a trib to the Allegheny and it is a cool water creek, it probably has pike and walleye in it.. That article suggests they tried fingerling stockings of trout.. I'd just go fish it and see how you do. Exploring can be one of the best parts of fishing..
I agree. It sounds like a place worth fishing."Channel catfish ranged from 14 to 15 inches with a large individual of 27 inches also sampled. A dozen of the smallmouth bass sampled ranged from 11 to 14 inches in length, and walleye were running from 16 to 21 inches in length."
That sounds pretty good!
Loyalhanna dam outflow has never been any kind of approved trout water. It's not really even accessible outside of the few hundred yards down from the dam.Below either Mahoning dam or Loyalhanna dam in that area used to be a year round or delayed harvest trout stocked water. Its been a long time since I was there and honestly can't even remember which dam I fished below but I remember it not being pretty water by any means. My wife has a cousin that fishes for musky at the very base of the dam if that narrows down which one.
