I have a red squirrel hide and a grey squirrel hide. What the heck is a fox squirrel!? And is it absolutely necessary? Kinda like the urine stained underbelly fur of a vixen fox?
Is it absolutely necessary if I have the other two species?A Fox Squirrel is a completely different species of squirrel. They are generally a bit larger than a grey squirrel. Definitely a different tone of color (more yellowish-red). Great fur for fly tying - dubbing for nymphs, tail hair for hair wings, etc. Here is a fresh roadkill that I picked up and skinned out a few years back in Huntingdon Co.

Thanks.I wouldn’t buy one just because someone else used it. I rarely follow a fly pattern exactly and couldn’t care less how someone else tied something.
