Got out on the Lehigh River in Bowmanstown around 6:00 p.m. this evening. Water levels are around 1200 cfs which is good for wading. I tried a new area for me where the main river splits off into a side channel with complex currents and depth. With the complex currents and the water depth, I went a black wooly bugger that has a cone head and added some split shot to the line. I was able to land this nice Brown which went airborne three times. I had several other fish hit but it could not get a solid hookup. Great evening, as the air chilled I knew it was time to get out and go home.

Today May 5, Fly Fishing same area in the cold rain and prepared for it. River wading is good running at approximately 1000 cfs, blue wing olives, sporadic mayflies perhaps Match Browns and Sulphurs, noon till 5pm.
Euro nymphing with a GRHE size 14 and a olive caddis larva. Adjusted weights to get the bumps on the bottom. Hooked 2 browns landed one at 14 inches. Gradually fish rising regularly so switched to a size 14 sulfur compara dun and a BWO in 18. Hooked 4 risers and landed one 16 inch brown in vibrant deep gold body.
On the walk upriver and on the D&L rail trail my feet were absolutely numb from the cold water. Great day of adventure and dealing happily with the discomfort.

Great evening 6 to 8 pm of a mix of midges mayflies (Sulphurs and Hendricksons) and caddis with rising fish in fast and slow water. Used #14 cream comparaduns successfully! Hooked 5 netted 2. I left my rain jacket in the truck because "its not gonna rain" was my note to self. I was absolutely soaked by pouring rain while having a great time getting rises and sometimes hooking those browns.

That first picture with the brown trout Heisman trophy pose selfie is great! I can’t help but smile looking at it!
