Jean's Run Access Question

... but the bottom line is my bottom-to-top hike of Jeans in June produced plenty of fish above the 9" mark. They are still there.
Why didn't WeekendNacho and I catch them that size? He had perfect conditions as well. I fished the same way, same flies as usual, also with perfect conditions. If they were there that size I would have caught at least a couple. It was the same exact story last year.

One day last year though, I fished the upper section (from the cliff/gorge upstream) and caught 32. My best day by far numbers wise, but they were all smaller fish. I think I got one that was 9", the rest dinks.

I'll leave it to others to walk thru that open door 🙂

I can't say. My conditions were cooler and my water was lower. Looking at my trip notes, water temps peaked at 54-ish the day I fished. The closest stream gauge was the Lehigh @ Lehighton was ~ 1/2' lower when I fished compared to yesterday.

I can say what the bigger fish came on but throughout the day I switched between a para to small crystal bugger. The bugger was on that day.

Pics don't necessarily represent the biggest that day but were more the ones I had the inclination to take a pic of, esp the browns that I landed about a mile up from the mouth..

I think they are. I traded PMs with a couple of you as a result of WENacho starting this thread, but the bottom line is my bottom-to-top hike of Jeans in June produced plenty of fish above the 9" mark. They are still there.

This is an old biologist report, but in it they note the cyclical nature of Jean's trout population and size. They also note that the big fish disappeared. Now, this is very old data, but it does align with what people are saying. WT2 was saying he caught "good ones" in 2009. The stream apparently got better in those 3 years since 2006 in the report here.

Either way, this biologist report notes the harsh environment of Jean's and it's effect on the fish population going up and down, up and down....

Interesting. Thanks for posting that. Looks like 1992 would have been the year to be on Jeans. 🙂

That one native is very nice! How many browns did you get? I've only ever caught three in 14 years. You did bank them, right? 😉
Caught two that day. I did not bank them. They were treated w the same care as every other fish I caught that day. Don't judge me too harshly.

Fished Jean w a partner from the forum last year that caught a single brown much further upstream, about 2 miles by my pin drop.

Was kidding on banking them, I released mine as well. One was 12" and had a real nice spot pattern. Got him 30yrds upstream from the Nesq.

No, I don't carry any protection. If a bear wants to get into your world, that's what'll happen, regardless of spray. They can be very determined when they choose to be. I imagine a gun would work, but I don't carry one while fishing. 🙂
I still have the protection that I carried in my wallet in high school. Is that what you guys are talking about?
