Is anyone still fishing?!?!?!?

I've still managed to catch a trout every month this year up until December, but this month isn't looking great. It's been freezing and quite windy every day; now, today is going to be almost 50 degrees, but it's a rare day that I really can't get out of work.

Back to the 30s for Thursday and Friday - when I'll be working from home and could fish - and then down to a high of 15 Sunday. Yikes.

I hate to admit defeat, but...

I was able to get out twice last week after the rain. Thursday was windy as all get out and high - no luck. Friday was cold, but was able to catch a few small wild fish and this holdover stockie. Put up a nice fight.

I’ve been fishing a lot still, and up until this week the action was still really good. Great success on the spring creeks and smaller freestoners. Yesterday, however, was the first time that I remember getting skunked this year while fishing for brook trout. Water was freezing from snowmelt and I only saw one fish all day. Hopefully the fishing stays good enough to make it worth going out in the cold over the winter

Broad Run or Bear Valley Run?

Going against my post above, I got out for 2 hours on my lunch break yesterday. Water was a bit high though fishable - which is a good thing given recent trends - but this was due to about 4 inches of snowmelt in the past week. Despite the warm air temp, the water was quite frigid. I didn't catch or see a damn thing.

Broad. I haven’t caught anything worth catching at bear valley ever since all of the wood structure got washed out, last time I was there the majority of the good pools were way shallower than they used to be, and it wasn’t just because of a lack of rain
Have you poked around Shippensburg yet?

I went fishing last weekend on the West Branch Susquehanna and I could see bottom in 18 feet of water! I've never seen it that clear before. One time before I recall seeing down to 11 foot.
How do you know it was 18’ deep? Heavy duty 25’ tape measure in your sling pack? Maybe zip tie a small diameter piece of rebar to it if the water is really moving? Sorry, I just can’t make any sense of this one.

Haha. Broad Run was the first stream that popped into my mind when seeing that pic too, but I couldn’t place it specifically. Funny how you get a knack for that after a while. I would’ve bet my 401k that stream was somewhere in the forested parts of SCPA though.

I imagine by using fish finder from a boat or kayak.
