hi everyone -- I've found my family getting a bit more nervous (okay, more than a bit) about my being out alone hiking the backwoods with my rod (always my preference). I do not plan on giving this up completely, but I've been trying to search for very safe wading options and/or a good large pond. I live in Elizabethtown and am fine with an hour drive in any direction. I am a catch and release angler solely. I also have a waterfront property that I would be willing to trade a free long weekends/weekdays camping for access rights to your fishable pond. It is 1/2 mile from the shore and fly fishing for puppy drum and rock fish is routine. I am happy to share details on the property if I get any takes (no pun intended) and if we can have a conversation. I am also fine with a pay-for-access private pond. I really appreciate all of you - I hope you have a nice day!

Hi -

I live in New Holland and there is a small pond about a 1 mile south of town, called Springside Trout Farm (they have a website) that offers fly fishing only catch and release from Monday to Thursday for $10/hr or $30/day, if that’s something that might interest you. You can also fly fish on Friday and Saturday as well for the same price if you catch and release, but you’d have to share the pond with with others that are fishing to keep all of the trout they catch (for a different fee).

The owner is very laid back, and it’s likely you could have the pond to yourself during the week, or perhaps another person or 2. If no one is around you pay on an honor system - you just put your money on the desk inside the small building beside the pond. I kind of like doing things that way as it reminds me how things were around here back then… (I asked the owner why he didn’t at least have a box to put the money in, and he said if someone took the money they could have it because he figured they’d need it more than he did.)

The pond is shallow, and if you would happen to slip in, it’s doubtful you’d get more than wet and dirty, and perhaps a bit cold. There are some chairs and tables around the pond to sit on if you get tired from catching fish (as I did earlier this week) and there’s also a nice pavilion with picnic tables where could have a leisurely lunch.

The pond is mainly spring fed, and is only open until the water becomes too warm for the trout to survive (perhaps early June).

Wow, that sounds like fun - that's all i needed to hear - thanks John..

It's too late for this year but I'd recommend joining Milton Grove Sportsman's club next January. They have a nice pond. They stock it with trout but there are also plenty of bass and sunfish for summer fishing.

Dela-Ches is another place you may be able to join this year. I haven't been a member there for a long time but used to fish there quite a bit with my grandfather.
