Has PAFF jumped the shark?

Dear Board,

Someone has to remember Happy Day's and the Fonz.

Trending posts now include people telling people how to think.

JMJ, I miss the olden days with Jeff F, and Chaz, and Padraic, and Big Dave, and................... so many other people. At least then in the olden days after yelling at each other we managed to get together and actually meet and actually form friendships.

That said, I went to the WW Jam, didn't even fish and still met people that I was glad to have met and would love to see again.

I know I can be a royal ***hole, but it's just fishin' so get over yourselves.

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

Tim I wasn't around in the old old days but I have been around for a little while and definitely the quality of posting in regards to the actual act of fly fishing has gone way down, and I have to admit I need to do a better job of staying out of the slop myself. I think it's the nature of forums going out of style so the population has thinned, and the Facebook/Instagram "look at me" mentality taking over the way things are discussed online.

That said I still enjoy most of the company here and really enjoyed meeting everyone I had a chance to meet at the Jam this year. That was fun and want to come back next year and concentrate on hanging out more instead of fishing myself to the point of passing out early Saturday night.

Haha,
Chaz, and his fights with his loyal following of big brookie deniers. I miss that too!

He’s funny. I miss his posts too. He still pops in every once in a while.

I think he thought every single Brook Trout caught in the state was stocked, other than the ones he caught himself.

Always loved a good “recalcitrant” Brown Trout discussion too.

I for one actually enjoy the controversial posts. Not sure why everyone has to pearl clutch when something polarizing is brought up to be discussed. We’re all opinionated folks anyway and it’s fun to shoot the bull and hear different perspectives on things. Lord knows so many places on the internet are already cracking down on that sort of thing.

Anyway, once it cools down a bit better everyone will be more relaxed and out fishing more.

Is it true that forums are going out of style? I'm not on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.

So, am I missing out on a lot? I don't really care about missing out on new flies, tackle, casting techniques, etc.

But I would like to keep up with what's happening with stream restoration, riparian buffers, fluvial geomorphology, large woody debris and related topics. I haven't found that stuff discussed very much anywhere, but maybe I just haven't found the right place on the internet.

You are not missing anything on Facebook. The cool kids aren't there either.

Dear TimMurphy,

Telling people how to think has been a centerpiece of the PAFF. The more the site has changed the more things have stayed the same.

Remember the good old days when we used to talk about:
Not enough rain
Too much rain
Stocking over Class A streams
Spot burning
Wet Wading Danger
Stomach contents
Sunglasses Help
A good place to fly fish?
And any old but a goody … Mountain Lion sightings.

Regards,

Dave Kile 😎

They definitely aren't as popular as they were 15+ years ago. The good ones like this on hold on but so many forums that I used to be a member of are either ghost towns or are completely gone, which is a shame because there are troves of information written in them.

I also do not have Facebook, Instagram, twitter, tiktok accounts and don't plan on it either.

Call me Mr Oblivious but I don’t think of PAFF as a site where there are many knockdown / drag outs. I must just close the threads that are offensive and move on without missing a beat.

On the Football and Basketball boards I belong to, there are many folks that seem to be there for the sole purpose of stirring up the s***. I have many people blocked on those sites. I want nothing to do with anything they say.

I remember it like it was yesterday.

You forgot "What's a good sidearm for snakes?"

We banned all those people to the basketball and football forums.

This is why the Jams are so good. Even guys we rarely see on the board, although we know your there somewhere, show up. Rarely do we see the big mouths with the internet muscles. But we all get long and have respect for one another. I also get to cook and drink with a few. Sometimes we fish.

is there anything in the fall?

is there anything in the fall?
Dear Nocktavius,

I know that Sasquatch and some other members have had a get together in Potter County in the Kettle Creek area during the Fall recently. I think it might have been more popular before he moved out of State though.

Watch the board, if they plan anything it will be announced in advance.

Tm Murphy 🙂

I stalked it for a few years before joining, and enjoyed it enough to give it a try. I like the back and forth and don't mind getting called out when I'm wrong. LinkedIn is way more nasty and it's supposed to be for "professional" content only.

This forum has allowed people to actually meet me face to face and confirm that....yes, he's an A******e

Been to some jams, not to fish but meet members. Did a few newbie things and I'm glad I had the opportunity to help a few and make some friends.
