Am I missing something? I did a search and am amazed that no one has posted this show. It's smaller than Edison, but in our backyard and a pretty big deal to me.

Les,

Because no one is going to be showing up. It is going to be too nice outside. If you are coming, make sure you swing by the Sky Blue booth, so I have at least one person to talk with on Saturday.

My wife and attend every year and really enjoy it. I’ll buy a book, some hooks, silk thread and some partridge feathers.

My wife’s friend has an art gallery, called Gallery on Market, that’s on King Street in Lancaster, next to the Farmer’s Market, just up the street from the Convention Center. She does a lot of trout and fly fishing paintings, if anyone might be interested to see some of her work while you’re there to see the show.

Here’s some examples that are on her Facebook page. (You can see the Convention Center in the background on one of these pictures.)

I also have a couple pieces of hers that my wife got for me a number of years back. Here is one of them.

I went, was a bit disappointed, was expecting to see some deals on hooks, no such luck. I was a bit disappointed to see whiskey being sampled at 930 in the morning. I didn't think that set a good example especially when parents had kids with them, that's just my opinion.

Gentleshehard, have you ever been to a farmers market or flea market that opens at 7am and is closed my noon or 1pm that had a booth from a local distillery or winery with samples? It is not like they have an open bar at 9am. Do you also have an issue with a diner that is open at 7am on a Sunday so that you can have a breakfast before hitting the stream, or maybe a lunch afterwards? At the risk of crossing the “politics line”, do you also feel that we should roll up the sidewalks at 5pm Saturday and bring back the old blue laws in full force?

Not gonna debate you about it, you voiced your opinion and I countered with mine.

Anytime I went to a fly fishing show looking for something specific or bargains, I'd always peruse the vendor list and make a few calls in advance to inquire what they were bringing and the price.

It has saved me a lot of driving, wasted time and money on admission fees...

Speaking of farmer's markets...

If you went to the Lancaster FF Show and didn't take some time out to walk across the street to the Lancaster Central Market you missed a really special building and America's oldest farmer's market.

BTW - They close at 3:00 pm... 😉

Speaking of booze, fly fishing shows and terrible examples...

When I used to go to the Lancaster FF Show in the past, I usually had a Bloody Mary (I furnished & fabricated) with my breakfast at the Central Market. That was followed by at least one more while walking around the show floor before hitting bar upstairs...

That helps to loosen the purse strings even if there are no deals... 😉

I feel you. It's the world today.

I remember in Lititz, when one gas station on one side of town was open and the other one on the other side of town was closed on Saturday. On Sunday it was reversed. The owners weren't interested in robbing their bread from each other and felt they could be brotherly to eachothers family. Today all gas stations open everyday, some 24 hours.

Freedom is great, sure. As you have seen though, people get all hot under the collar if they think that someone calling out unethical practices means they might lose just a little sliver of it, but only at the cost of ignoring the ethical matter.

Instead, I say let them drink. The parents can just use it as a teaching moment to show their kids a better way.

Yes, Central Market is definitely worth a visit.

When I was a kid, the Southern Market was still open. I think that closed in the 1970s.

My mom said that there used to be four farmers markets in Lancaster. Central Market is the only one still going.

The framing in the building is amazing to look at from the inside.

It may not be the best farmer's market I ever been to, but it is certainly the nicest building...
I always stop and get donuts, candy, coffee, pastries when I go down to the City Market. My brother in law lives in the immediate area so when we go to visit its a must do stop!

I would love to do a walk through when no business is happening. Just to feel the history of the building! It truly is amazing!

Dear Board,

Just curious but why does food always take precedent over fly fishing on this board. 😉

Are all y'all fat dudes like me! 😉

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂
