Fly Fishing Blogs

mine started as a complete joke. then it was to help a buddy learn wordpress. then it was to help document my summer travels. now it's just a place to post hero shots and share my fishing. i have no ads and no plan to make dollars from it. but i have kept it going for almost two years and it does help me pursue this wild passion of ours. it's also been great to have a connection with other anglers across the globe, people i would have never had contact with if it was not for old beertrout.com

I've been considering it but I want to keep all my posts. was it easy to import them?

I've had the blog itch lately...This is due mostly from reading other blogs. I've learned that by posting a few longer forum "how-to's" and project posts that I like doing these type of things. So with all that in mind, a 2013 goal of mine is to post 2x month on my blog. No real aspiration to make money, put ads, do product reviews, etc...Although I have written down several ideas for posts and product reviews have made the list. Although, I think it would be with products I purchase myself. At this point now, this is more of a "self improvement" project, rather than a job or media outlet.

Always interested in hearing ideas and different themes that other use in blogs, for spin-off ideas.

Edit: not my blog, just a cool site with a lot of fishing and photography tuts.

I've had a blog since 09. I started it as a digital fishing log with narrative reports and pictures. I started it for me, as my own record of fishing trips near and far. I've never really publicized it so it does not get much traffic. This is the first time I have made my blog known outside of close friends and family. Posting gets slow when school keeps me from fishing. My blog just reached the point where if I want to keep posting pictures I have to buy additional capacity. I don't know if I want to pay the freight to keep it going. I’ve thought about starting a new blog and linking to the old one or importing the old posts, or I may even stop blogging. I’m not sure what I want to do. For your reading pleasure Fishing Adventures I hope you guys enjoy.

my favourite blog is small stream reflections - it's a retired guy from CT who fly fishes small brooks for wild brookies.

he normally fishes 2-3 times a week year round, and the photography is just stunning, and he nearly always takes pics of his homemade streamside lunches as a finish.

he is also a very accomplished 'Rangely' style streamer tyer.

imho, his blog is the best on the net - a real gem, and its worth going back through his 3 year history just to see the photos.

Mark.

There's alot blogs I like for various reasons that some of you might have never heard of. Some are so well written, that I think the authors should have a monthly column in every fly fish mag there is. Examples:
http://www.upthepoudre.com/
http://mysteriesinternal.blogspot.com/

Some are just great fish porn and fly tying eye candy with a few good stories mixed in
www.thisriveriswild.com
http://anglerschoiceflies.blogspot.com/
http://www.yukongoesfishing.com/ (watch the videos..seriously)

Then there are the educational ones for tying
http://flytyingnewandold.blogspot.com/ (he'll post some random stuff on occasion, but Norman has some amazing posts about fly tying tips)
http://provenpatterns.blogspot.com/ - Lucas Carroll can straight up tie some flies
http://hopperjuan.blogspot.com/

Then there are the ones that are funny, or just have a personal touch. I dig the blogs where you get a sense of the person writing it because they occasionally share pics of their family, kids fishing, etc.
www.troutrageous.com

I'm not sure, my friend wanted to learn Wordpress so he purchased the domain and did the transfer. I will ask him about the transfer, my guess is that it was easy.

Man, I gotta get out and fish so I have something to Blog!

Here's my brother and I's blog.

http://nicksfishinhole.blogspot.com/

I don't really have it to seek a big audience, but more so just the joy of writing up reports/adventures and looking back at them as well as sharing with family, friends, and whoever happens to stumble upon it. Plus it's fun to do.

mine is www.centralpatroutbum.blogpot.com

I wish I could find more time to devote to it. I really like posting trips and the connections I have made from blogging.

My blog, mentioned in one of the earlier posts on this thread is nothing special. I started it about a year ago as i wanted to record my progress in learning to tie classic flies and also to put them out there for others to read and see. I currently get about 100 hits per week, and i've got 40 followers. Before i started it, i read a lot of the local guys, DTT, Troutrageous, ACF, TFM etc. and thought, hey, why not, i can do that too.
A lot of what i post on the blog is just flies, the (very) odd fishing trip and sometimes responses to questions asked on forums if i think it would make a good post. Some months only one or two posts, this month alone i think i've 12 posts. I put up some SBS for flies i've tied or techniques folks have asked about on forums too.

I keep it strictly fly tying/fishing with very little, if any personal family related posts. Just my preference.

Currently at 40 followers on the blog, and over 100 on facebook

I enjoy posting, especially the flies. I'll keep it going as long as there is interest. Just did my first giveaway recently too.
I didnt start it looking for free stuff by doing reviews etc, and frankly have never been approached to do any, which is fine. I write it because i like it...if i get approached, that would be great too!

Anyways, feel free to check it out if you want, the link is easy to find.

It's very easy. I'm familiar with blogger so just Google "blogger", click on create blogger and go from there. You can also Google "how to start a blog" for advice. Once you get familiar with it you can do all sorts of custom stuff. On your blog's main page click on "Design" and then click "Customize."

If you're concerned about messing up, you can always delete and start a new blog or start two at the same time and use one for experimenting.

Wordpress is another blog service that's easy.
