Fishing fashion

I'm a complete savage when it comes to dressing for fishing success, lol. Usually it's some sort of t-shirt, long or short sleeve, in camo, olive, or if they happen to be dirty Yankee blue. Then usually jeans, as uncomfortable as everyone says they are, I've been wearing them fishing my entire life so no need to change now. I do have a pair of fleece lined jeans for early season as well as an LL Bean flannel lined shirt that's so old now the cost is probably amortized to $0.

I wore jeans until I became a more or less exclusive wet wader although I'll still wear them or a pair of Carhartt work pants with hippers or when bank fishing...

The first stop after abandonment was a pair of BDU pants from a army-navy store. They were cheap, comfortable with lots of pockets and worked OK for wet wading pants since I NEVER wet wade in shorts.

However, once I bought my first pair of quick drying nylon "fishing" pants, I never looked back. The only drawback I discovered the hard way is they offer NO protection against stinging nettle 😱 and not even poison ivy if the pants are soaked, especially from perspiration.

My current pair are an old pair of Cabela's branded fishing pants...

Another reason I like dedicated fishing pants or at minimum have an extra pair of jeans is for those times I go out AFTER fishing. When I fish at places like the Letort or Big Springs where kneeling or sitting in mud can be an advantage, it's nice to be able to get out of those muddy pants before heading out to dinner.

I was just busting your stones, man. Joking around.
I picked up on that. 🙂 And, not an attempt to derail my own thread, but I just want to mention that part of me being a wild trout snob has to do my desire to escape anything that represents man's non-stop manipulation of things, and be in places that don't reflect that. Those lightning trout/paliminos are the epitome of manipulation.

I own quite an assortment of simms outerwear. I have purchased most of it on sale foe 1/2 price and for that price the fit, function and performance have been tops. Simms insulated shirts
( purchased on sale for more than 1/2 off)are far superior to the wrangler shirts from walmart.
Same here. Mostly Simms, all purchased at least 50% off.

I know most trout fishermen go commando under waders but their buck naked boxer briefs are no joke. Worth every bit of the 20 bucks per pair. They often have buy 3 at 19 dollars get a 4th pair free.
Since I only fish from about May through August, when it's warm out, I just wear boxer shorts with swim trunks under my waders. I do that because they're light weight, cool, and they won't compromise the seams of my waders. Very comfortable too.

If you're at the flyfishing show in Lancaster this weekend, take notice of how many are wearing the "fishing shirts" !
I've worn "fishing shirts" to work and to the grocery store and just going for a walk.

Why not? They're comfortable and they have big pockets.

I'm a cargo shorts/pants, T shirt (long sometimes short sleaved)with a pocket, full brim hat kinda guy.

Even with great sunglasses, the brim on my hat greatly helps me watch the water.

I do splurge on breathable, light weight, water resistant gear. Pants and jacket. Typically REI.

I tan easily. UVA and UVB both cause skin to tan. If I wear an old school T Shirt, I get tan lines. Tan lines mean my bare skin received UVA and UVB, hence the tan. The part of my arm covered by shirt, is not tan. I conclude my T-Shirt had to prevent UV light. ??? I don't buy the hype of UV or SPF marketting on shirts. I guess if you want something that dries more quickly than cotton, it makes sense.

Maybe if you burn easily and are fishing in the tropics that
Kind of protection is needed.

I'm curious how many folks wear one of those fancy, usually expensive, long sleeve collared fishing shirts? I've seen them sell for as much as $98 at Orvis and L.L. Bean. I just can't see wearing something that nice on a stream where I don't see another fisherman all day. I wouldn't wear one even if I expected to see other fishermen. A t-shirt ($10), with a pocket for my smokes has always gotten the job done for me. Is how you look while fishing important to you? Obviously, there's no right answer. 🙂
Shakey puts this to shame. The man goes all out and it’s glorious to behold.

Fishing fashion? I got some chuckles reading about some of your fishing wardrobes. Too each its own.. I wear whatever is clean and keeps me blended in to the surroundings and yet fairly comfortable. I do wear sunglasses and an old Kangol hat on occasion and that makes me feel kind of cool...
