- Any constructive tips on shooting video with a Go Pro would be appreciated, one thing I found is that the gopro stabilization crops the video in ways I don't like, I'm planning on doing that post processing next time to see how it turns out.

@JeremyW With photos or video I like to think out what is the purpose of my project. Is it a story or educational? What is anyone trying to say with a video? Who is the video for? I think about a beginning/intro, middle and close. What challenges did some one have, how did they overcome those issues and what do they learn. A side surprise is always fun, like if you saw a big foot or something.

I'm not a huge fan of long fly fishing videos. There are some people that work on these videos and make them 40 mins long. With my adult ADD, there is no way I watching something that long.

In my experience with videos is audio is a very important part of the final project, if not the most important. So for example, during your car ride a good quality voice over share the intro of what you are doing would be important. People are able to produce some pretty high quality videos today. Sometimes some simple titling helps too.

PA Fly fishing Vlogging is a pretty crowded space right now. I thinking about doing a video story for my fishing experiences in May this year. I won't be Vlogging posts because I don't have the time, interest and like I said there are enough people doing this kind of stuff already. More of a personal project.

Good luck

Sorry about the joke.

In all seriousness I liked the video too. Thanks for sharing.
Pretty trees during the intro!

I’m not educated on this topic, but would a gyroscope or gimbal help? Perhaps stabilizing the go pro mechanically would take away some of the pressure to stabilize the image digitally?

Also I really liked the intro music. Perhaps a formal introduction and some brief foreshadowing right after it stops playing.

Anybody ever play a bass fishing game on the SNES? That music for the first 36 seconds reminds me of the music they played while driving the boat around looking for spots to fish. So I thought it fit really well.

Nice video. Beautiful scenery.

But I don't get the point of nymphing videos. Just seeing a stretch of water, and hearing "there's a fish" followed by a bent rod doesn't do it for me. If it's instructional then I get that there is something to watch for or learn. If it's dry fly fishing and you can see the take...great.

Just my opinion. Enjoy your outings and filming hobby.

One thing you can do is utilize your phone as a second viewpoint. The camera is equal too if not better than go pro. Get a cheap tripod for the phone and position it on the bank. I sometimes film fishing for funsies but only when I have a lot of time.

yeah, I did consider doing this to, I may add that... I do have a small tripod and phone holder. thanks

yeah, you know I may try to shoot in 4k or 2.7k so that I can zoom in for the dry fly take, I also enjoy that part, but without the extra resolution, it will get fuzzy when you do the zoom on the software side.

thanks for the input, @DaveKile I guess the video is for people like me, who enjoy sitting on the couch when they can't get out and fish to watch a relaxing video. A few famous you tubers I like are Hardman Fishing Adventures, and Tenkara Addict. Typically their Videos are less than 10 minutes... I also don't like the epic length, high production movies, I tend to skip through most of them.

I think you are right about the intro voice over, typically when I get close to the water, I'm just excited to put in and start catching, but that's a good idea also.

For now, and probably always this will just be for fun to share with friends / family. I have a full time career in software development, so I don't need it for the money. If I can dial in the time it takes in post production, and make it quick and easy, I may continue to do it a few times a month.

Since I've got some software skills, I'm looking in how to automate some of the post production work, also go pro has some voice commands that may help in finding the good parts easier, there's typically also a fair amount of time NOT catching fish in between.

Dave and Amelia Jensen have amazing dry fly footage. Also the New Fly Fisher is beyond anything a standard YouTuber makes. I could binge watch that show for hours. I enjoy Hardman fishing adventures at times and Woolybugged.
