Erie Tribs

Didn't fish but looked on the west side. High and stained but not raging, and they drop and clear fast. For Walnut later today or tomorrow, for Elk tomorrow or Wednesday. Bring your angler (and Yinzer) repellant. After that it will be tougher.

Took a second look at Walnut mid afternoon today. Water still high and nasty at the access area and not very many fishermen. But 6 miles upstream water level was not too bad, tho still pretty stained. Probably will be perfect tomorrow. Couldn't see into the water there, but at Trout Run nursery area (also very muddy) there were a ton of fish blasting out of the lake up to the dam/trap. Size of fish seemed pretty average (which is great) but did see a few 27-28" or so. Elk might be pretty decent for a couple more days but I didn't look at it. Maybe will check tomorrow.

i’ll be up friday.. my opinion is fridays are the new saturdays but in all honestly, i’ve never had a problem with finding water to fish.. I hate saying it cause it’s always the answer but if you just walk a little from the parking lots you’ll find some peace and hopefully fish too with the rain

I'll be up starting Nov 2nd for a few days. Hope we get another gully washer closer to then!

Need a few more. It has been a very dry late summer early fall so far. looks like temps are going up. need some more lake effect rain as the we have been gettin the past 3 days. Hopefully it will change back after the coming warm trend. I know ill be gathering leaves this weekend.

I have ben on Elk since Oct.16. Water was up and there were some fresh fish and folks were catching there share. However current conditions are not good. I only saw 5 or 6 fish caught in the last 2 days. I caught 2 yesterday after a 5 hour day. I enjoy fishing low clear water swinging and working flies. Current conditions are really not fishable for drifting and the fish are just laying there. Water temps are up so that is understandable.
Yesterday we spent 3 hours on Walnut and I saw one legal fish taken.

Just wait for cooler temps and some rain. Tony

the farm stands on rt 5 will have some incredible apples and wonderful cider! Mason"s is popular ... and the one close to Godfrey Run ( Golden Glow Farm ?? ). The Mission Thrift store outside of Albion on
Rt 20 & Rt 18 ... found some great shot glasses there.

The barn with the "Pour a Koehler Collar" mural - that mural has been painted on that barn for as long as i can remember --- over 50 years for me. i see that the Jackson Koehler brewery was established in Erie Pa in 1891!

have a great time. i'll be back up in November --- hopefully we'll get some moisture soon. Avonia Beach webcam looks decent -- not too many guys. you can always throw streamers and popsicles. looked at Uncle John's cams .... man, that is LOWWWW.

good luck!

Thursday had a decent movement of fish on Lower Elk. Almost everyone caught some fish. My clients landed a few and lost a few. It was a mixture of old and fresh fish. There were fish in the runs as well as the holes. Still not a lot of water so swinging flies may be your best bet.
Also the Fish comis. stated the reason for the dead fish was do to Low oxygen, warm water and a sand bar built up so fish were getting stranded in Trout Run nursery waters. They have made a barrier so the fish can not get on to the shallow bar.

just an incredible and concerning news story - thanks for posting it. and it does not look like much chance of any rain soon .. Girard forecast says only " couple of morning showers" or "brief morning shower or 2 " over next week -- or 2. i wonder what the fish commision will do? --- if anything.
