The numbers are lower than 15 years ago, but still plenty of fish. Things are usually pretty good by mid-October.

Here are a couple of maps.

Here's a good thread from last year. Should keep you busy reading up for a while!

Steelhead

Plenty of water on Elk to catch good fish. Those FishErie Maps that were already posted are a great resource. I have a set I laminated & keep with me when fishing Erie tribs. I use a pen or marker to document specific notes. Lake Erie Ultimate Angler is a great fly shop & the guys are quite informative. Give them a call & they will give you some good info. The owner, Steve, is a great guy & had the chance to fish with him a few times. He taught me a lot about steelhead & smallmouth fishing. Steelhead season is just around the corner!

I highly recommend Pat from FOM guide service.

I have been going to Erie since 2006 and learned more from him in one day than I did on my own. He'll take you wherever you want and the best part is you can get there again because it's public. Better than that is the tips and tactics you'll learn. tell him to bring his rod and watch him in action. he'll protest bringing his rod but tell him you want him to. I learned a ton by watching him fish. just be ready to move! LOL!

Rubby, that info is on the website that Tim provided. I checked it out because I never heard of them.

I have no need on Elk, but someday I may hit the PM.

PM=Pere Marquette?

As others have said the fish numbers are lower. More guys keep fish and by the end of October the run is winding down. In years past some of the best fishing was in November. I'd watch the weather and call Poor Richards before planning a trip. The fishing between runs just isn't what it used to be. Try to be there when fish are coming in from the lake.
