I bought the materials to make flies from the Orvis store in Downingtown. I costs me $4 for twelve of the little egg balls, $12.95 for 50 high carbon steel hooks, and $7.95 for a bottle of head cement. Made (I won't call what I did tying) 48 eggs in a relatively short time span. I did test one out on my recent steelheading trip. The egg fell off the hook at one point but I didn't mind as the fly was higher in my rig and the fish were hitting the point fly anyways. I will say these eggs were made without a bead. If you wanted to go the beaded route that would be a different story with more materials required and more time spent making each fly.
I got a laugh out of the fact you only had two eggs left. Never heard of a fly "repair" but people have disassembled some flies to reuse materials. You will need a lot more than two eggs if wish to fish that fly through the winter season.
