Do stocked trout lack intelligence or do they only lack experience?

All the browns and rainbows we might adore as wild fish were at one time the progeny of stocked trout.

Prime example is the keystone select section of oil creek in petroleum center.
Which I'd bet prospector has fished.
These fish get pounded relentlessly from the time they're stocked.
And by this time of year, can be quite difficult to catch

If that’s the case, and if you’re so inclined to experiment, give the late evening or night fishing a try. Former fisheries colleagues and I have had great success on stocked and wild trout waters mentioned as being tough or that have been pounded all spring. One tough one is frequently mentioned here. Late May or June is the time that we usually start night fishing.
