On cold nasty days like today I used to spend the afternoon by the fireplace looking at all the fly fishing catalogs that had come in the mail over the winter. It seems with the digital/Internet era I don't get any in the mail anymore. Does anybody else notice that ?

I get the Flyfisher's Paradise once a year, cabela's and feather craft a few times a year. There is something about paging through a catalog as opposed to surfing the web.

I haven't ordered from Orvis or Cabelas in several years and whereas I used to receive 4 or more per year from both of them, I now get nothing. I miss it a bit.

I just got an orvis catalog in the mail yesterday it is thinner than the local daily paper. Even trolling their online site lacks the ambiance of the past.
One would think they would incorporate online videos, showing their wears on stream, would have some merit.
But, there is only so much stuff I need and most is tying related and feathercraft does a great way of presenting materials in their catalog.
Just how many rods, vests, waders do I need to have?
Time to head back to the desk as I have more flies to tie.

I do a good bit of shopping for my outdoor gear online. Cabelas and BPS are fairly regular in my mailbox. LLBean too. Sierra Trading Post is about one per week!

I like the big name catalogs for the pictures, and some winter day dreaming, but for online shopping, I really like Ed's Fly Shop and Angler's Habitat. Both are very professional and offer competitive pricing.

I still enjoy thumbing through the feathercraft catalog, most often while on the can. Anyhoo, I order quite a bit of stuff I don't really need but looks good in the pages.
I do order a few things online but prefer to handle most items if possible.

The only one that showed up so far is Cabela's fly fishing. I think a couple others probably dropped me off the list as I hadn't ordered for awhile.

Would be great to get the Flyfisher's catalog. Usually just pick it up during Jam week when I'm in town.

Will need to sign up for their mailing list at some point...

I've got half dozen or so catalogs lying around on the table right now. Four are fly fishing. The others are fishing related but I order hooks I use for poppers and bass bugs, spinner bait skirts and skirt layers that I use for the poppers and some of my bass flies from them. Usually I'll order one or two things from each catalog which keeps them showing up in my mail box about this time each year.

I receive an annoying amount of catalogues.... bet I get a Cabeleas once a week and orvis about once every 2 weeks.

Have the Cabelas credit card and redeem rewards 2-3 times a year, I rarely buy anything.

I hate catalogs! Anything I purchase from these catalog companies I purchases over the internet and I can access the internet alomst anywhere and any time since I get it on my phone too. Most catalogs say for a larger selection check online. I must get 2 or 3 catalogs a week from Cabelas, Bass Pro, etc. Such a waste of paper! I don't even open them and they just go to recycling. I could see a flier every now and then but the large catalogs are not necessary!

I don't care to access the internet with cc information cause someone else out there will eventually be able to access me.

but I get several mags a year from Cabela's, Bass Pro Shop, Orvis, and Flyfisher's Paradice and a few others now and then.

I like to flip through catalogs and look at new products and new fly patterns.

I have received several this year...mostly Cabela's.

I get a Cabela's and Orvis catalog about every week it seems now. Every once in a while a JStockard catalog shows up. They are all currently stacked in a pile on the floor next to the can

Catalogs are so much easier to see what is available. As I have found, this i-age technology pushes the work down to the end user. so it saves them money to not do or send something, but it is a pain for you.

Bass Pro stopped putting details of products in their catalog, expecting you to respond to the pictures and sales pitch to use your own work and expense to look up what weight, size, length, pieces, varieties, colors...whatever differentiates products within a line.

You can't sell me on a rod or a reel or lure without knowing the dimensions and other physical aspects of that product. I'll just think, 'well, who knows if that's available in a 6 ft. 6 inch Medium Light model". I'm not doing their work for them.

I like to look through the fly selections to get ideas on stuff that I need to tie that I will never use.

I keep them under the bathroom sink. Good bathroom reading material when you have a few minutes to kill . . .

I get cabelas darn near close to once a week. BPS probably 1 every 2 or 3 weeks. A few feathercraft a year. Annual flyfishers paradise. Thats my collection, also throw in a small gander mountain flyer here and there.

I get Orvis, The Fly Shop and occasionally Cabellas. I love to use these catalogs for tying ideas; especially the Fly Shop catalog. So many good patterns in these catalogs and always getting new ideas from them. Also, you can't help but day dream looking at some of the pictures/fish porn.

Same here. I miss them too. I used to heat my house with catalogs, now I have to use regular logs.

And to think I thought you used cow pies and methane!!
