Fished below Canonsburg Lake at the spillway yesterday. Figured I might get into some bass and threw some buggers and stripped and jerked them around for awhile- no luck.

Put on a Royal Coachman and caught several sunnies. Noticed some big carp surfacing- kinda rolling the surface. Did'nt really think the carp were rising but I guess they were. As soon as I switched to a beetle- WHAM and about 3 seconds later I was broke off by a big carp on my 4x. I switch to 1x and missed 1 a bit later and then that was it.

Did'nt expect to hook into a carp on top. Based on all the bait containers and the 15 people that had come and gone during the time I was there they must get pummeled. I was thinking maybe they are more selective and starting taking things on top?? Is this off base?

An old friend used to always catch em on top. It's something that people don't try often, but they will hit. I think your theory is good.
