I thought of a simpler way to describe the cast I discussed earlier.

Prepare for the cast much like the B & A cast.

Except that you don't bend the rod back.

You just hold the fly, or the tippet, with your left hand, and then make a forward casting stroke with the rod.

Try it and see how it goes.

Sure that works, but it's about more than avoiding making a back cast. Often enough, the reason to choose a B&A cast is to avoid a full casting stroke due to overhanging limbs or some other obstruction. Being able to fire your fly into a tight spot without waving your rod around is a big advantage of B&A.
 
Broke the tip of my rod with a B&A cast. Haven't tried it since.
