Berks county class a info

One thing I forgot to mention- if we were to name a bunch of smaller, lesser-known streams, it would be a bad idea to not include info about how to properly treat the resource. Most anglers in PA don't understand or have never heard of the concept of wild trout. It would be a wasted opportunity to just name 500 decent streams without also doing something to better inform the average angler about how a wild trout population works. Whether or not this would be enough to ease the fear of what lurkers would do to someone's home stream, probably not.

doubt you'd get enough people willing to open up like that.

Me too, unfortunately.

Let me help paint a picture for everyone.

Paflyfish is here to help foster a shared interest in expanding our knowledge, experience and most importantly our enjoyment for fly fishing in Pennsylvania region. Humor, ideas, debate, and opinions are encouraged. Deliberate insults, personal attacks, and lewd comments are not welcome for any reason.

As a community site that encourages fly fishing in Pennsylvania, this site also encourages the sharing of ideas, fish stories, stream locations, and general helping of others to learn more and become better fly fishing anglers.

If you don't like the policies please feel free to leave. If anyone feels the need to deliberately intimidate anyone for following this policy I assure you they will be booted.

This site has thousands of people that seem to enjoy the community we have created by being open. I have expressed this countless times and we are not going to change.

There are countless miles of public access waters that anglers are encouraged to fly fish over.

I have learned some great things from this site. There is a lot of useful information and people willing to help the the new guy trying to get started, to the more experienced angler needing a technical question answered.

DKile, this is your site and you can run it as you please. I will disagree with you and others on your open door policy when it comes to freely sharing just any stream on PAFF. It could be done in a more responsible manner IMO. I for one have seen the the creek in question go down hill these past couple years. Not every stream can handle the pressure this site directs to it. This streams decline is a direct result of people blabbing about it on PAFF that I can guarantee you.

So why there are many positives about this site there is definitely one big negative.

You have to take the definite good with the speculative bad.

Jeff,

Hear you and respect yours and everyones opinion. Which proves to me why an open approach has worked so well and been successful for 15 years.

My feedback is for everyone not just Jeff.

The really only non-negotiable for me is how we treat each other on the site. There is no way everyone will agree on every issues. I very comfortable with that fact.

I say this for everyone, deliberate insults, personal attacks, and lewd comments are not welcome for any reason. We have to understand there are times we are going to have to agree to disagree.

I only ask each of us to take this passion we have and give back to the sport in a way you feel best suited for you. Contribute in a positive manner whether it be help teach some one new, Wound Warriors, TU conservation efforts or whatever.

I don't really care about Donny Beaver, Class A, Big Spring, Spot Burning and other calamities in our sport. What concerns me more is what do we do to help our sport? That is my fight. Pay it forward.

With all due respect, understanding history and what has happened in the past that has hurt the sport and the fisheries is very important and shouldn’t be swept under the rug. You can’t change the past but you certainly can learn from the past and prior mistakes so as not to make the same mistakes when trying to implement future ideas in order to help the sport moving forward.

GW if you want to slice and dice NP. You are not hearing me. Pay it forward is the message. :)

Spot-burning exists, and posting info about some stream on this site and other places on the intreweb can, will, and has been to the detriment of those streams. If one thinks a handful of anglers every weekend stomping up and down a secluded wild trout stream (even conscientious FFers) has no effect on the inhabitants therein, one is sorely mistaken. I "discovered" a Monroe County stream a few years ago that likely many of you know of or have fished. The first few times I fished there I encountered hundreds of wild browns - there were fish everywhere there was holding water. And the deeper runs held decent numbers of bigger fish. Then the PFBC decided to publicize it as a "hot spot for wild trout"... Immediately after that I would find cars in the parking area (a SGL lot on the ridge about 1/4 mi from the stream) when usually there were none, both baiters and FFers down in the stream when I never encountered anyone before, and, of course, fewer and smaller trout. I rarely fish there anymore...

That said, VC is not a secluded wild trout stream. Everyone knows about it. It's restoration to a wild trout fishery is well-documented and publicized. Is this really where this crap started? Threatening, bullying - like, seriously? If anyone can fill me in via PM I would appreciate it, but whatev.

I think it's best to ask yourself some questions before you post publicly about a stream. Is it a small stream, with a relatively fragile habitat? How accessible is it? Are the masses going to be willing to bushwhack and crawl through multiflora rose to catch a 4" brookie - probably not. Hell Creek in Monroe County, for example. Go there. Enjoy. I think the 'Hicky, on the other hand, falls into the category of both fragile and accessible - it wouldn't require much effort to catch and keep all the legal trout one wants there. Oh, see what I did there...? You all know where I'm talking about but I didn't actually name it in a manner that it can be searched for. Google indexes every post on this website. You don't have to be a member to search for "paflyfish West Lunker Run" and get a list of every post mentioning such. Try it. Actually, PAFF is such a popular site that you don't even have to include it in the search. Google any PA stream and this forum is one of the top results...

Hey, if you're a noob and still learning the ins and outs of the coolest hobby on earth that's fine. You're excused, IMO. No one can blame you for being amped about a stream and wanting to tell everyone about it. Live and learn.

Squatch - the old school HBO Ali G is effing HILAROIUS! Guy's a comedic genius.

TL;DR. I know.

Google any PA stream and this forum is one of the top results.

You understand the way google works, right? This site is one of the top results because you frequently visit it, probably on the same browser on the same computer logged in as the same person.

Someone else could do the same search and get vastly different results.

You know, it's also amazing that when I visit any site, most of the ads are of things related to what I'm interested in. They must be psychic!

LOL yes, I know how google works. I know how cookies work and how ad-tracking works. I misspoke slightly. I don't know what browser/config you run, but my non-sponsored search results are most certainly not biased.. If I type a random semi-popular stream name, I get mixed results. If I include "paflyfish" before the search terms, or use the command "site:paflyfish.com", it's on.

So... you successfully sniffed out the one incorrect sentence from my hella-wordy post. Congrats. :p

Oh, check your PMs. I have another question or two regarding the ANF and my upcoming trip I posted about before the old Locations forum got nuked. Hoping you can be of some help.

Dude, the Ali G Show was amazing. Best one is when he visits the farm and he gets the old dude going on the difference between a veterinarian and a veteran. Netflix needs to put that crap up!

Hell I got "njflyfishing.com" long before I hit PAFF!

Kabutt's point is true though. I googled the stream I previously mentioned, a more obscure, and it came up w/ threads on this page.

JackM - I'm not sure if your post backs up or refutes my assertion. But my results are the same.

You obviously visit this site often, so if pcray is correct you should see results from this site. I also don't get results from this site when searching random stream names. So, my particular statement that just searching a stream mane without the paflyfish command was incorrect. I stand corrected and humbly apologize for this misrepresentation. It is also important to consider that different browsers can be configured differently, and will produce different results. That said, try using "site:paflyfish.com" preceding your query.

My point was that if someone wants to find out about a stream from the PAFF forums, they don't have to be a member to do so. Even if the forum is hidden to non-members.

Damn, I googled Hell Crack and I got nothing but porn sites...................oops never mind. Typo. :-D

Hope you're not at work lookin' at that pron!

LOL Fox. If it exists, there is porn of it.

haha I'll watch when I get home. Remember when he asked Stormin' Normin, "Do you know General Motors?"

One time when I was in high school and the interwebs was dial up, I was doing research for a book report on the Hobbit. I found some hilarious pron!

I've sworn off responding to this thread, which is a shame because there's some champion statements made in here.

That said, the following statements have no relevance the drama, so I'm able to weigh in without violating the spirit of my prior statement:

"valley creek" turns up no results until page 6? Try "valley creek fishing," "valley creek fly fishing," or "valley creek fishing report." Five hundred thirty-eight results just from this site alone on that, BTW.

Google weights results, period. End of story. It will frontload results for you, as well as those who use AdSense, as well as appropriate meta tags. There's entire businesses devoted to loading Google results.

Members-only'ing a forum keeps the crawlers out. No crawlers, no Google. How do I know? I run a fly fishingish website which is locked to all non-members, and our information doesn't end up on the Googles.

That said, members-only'ing reports/locations will jsut result in an inordinate amount of new members who never post, but the results would remain the same for people gleaning information, such as it is. How do I know? Because someone suggested people from here go there in a public thread, and I witnessed a 30% surge in membership, and a 10% return on new posters from the influx. People don't want to provide content, they want to take it.

I had never heard of Ali G until today and now I'm pissin' myself laughing at that clip! How did ole C Everett not break down???????
