Are polarized glasses a must?

Yes, absolutely. Except for dawn and dusk, I wear them all the time. Exceptionally helpful for seeing the bottom when wading as well as seeing structure in the water. You don't need to break the bank either. I don't think I've ever paid more than $25 for a pair and I always keep a spare set in my vest. I really wouldn't want to be without them.

My polarized prescription progressives that I bought for fishing is by far the most expensive piece of fishing gear I ever bought. They cost double what I have ever spent on a rod and well worth it to me.

Eye protection, cutting down glare, being able to see structure and sometimes fish - don't leave home without them. Might save you from tripping over a rock. I've sighted some big trout in some very inaccessible sections of creek that I never would have seen otherwise.

I always have mine. I wear prescription Costa's and they are great.

I guess you could fish without glasses but why? This is America.
