1st Shad Caught in the Delaware

Sandy,

The head of frisbee island is a great place to find giant schools of shad. Into your backing and then their mouth tears. I don't target them but won't turn one down if he grabs the fly. They'll eat a prince nymph. When the lower east is crystal clear and you float those big pools...looking down to see several hundred 4-5 pounders is pretty cool.

Last year I was fishing the DeBruce Club on the upper Willowemoc and there were schools of hickory shad up there. They had a long swim.

Oh yeah. They head to Hancock, turn up the EB and then split up at the "jaws". Some go upper EB others head up the Beaverkill. Long swim indeed and normal flows make the Beaverkill portion of that swim pretty ugly.
