I fish down to size 32 so I've dealt with this for a long time.
A couple of things and a recommendation.
Avoid deep or non sloped compartments like the plague for tiny lies, they make it extremely difficult to extract a single fly.
Avoid magnetic attachments. With tiny flies, the hooks get magnetized easily and they will stick together also making it extremely difficult to extract a single fly.
As much as a I love and use Myran boxes, really small stuff like the thread & wire bodied midges I tie will migrate between compartments.
That being said, my tiniest flies are stuck in plain flat foam. In my case, either in flat foam sheets I made to put in my Richardson Box or in one of the small
Wheatley Boxes I use for midges. The larger Wheatley Slimline Flat Foam Wheatley boxes are nice too.
The suggestion: Get a minigrabber and attach it to a zinger to pick up, tie on AND put back the small stuff. It makes life SO much easier and is better than using hemostats:
