it’s been sometime since I’ve dealt with these guy. They replaced inner foam in a couple of boxes as that old green foam disintegrated and turned to dust, I had them put removable snap in panels w/ micro slit foam in the outer nymph pad tray. At 1 time I had 4 of their boxes in different configurations. I bought all mine used either at local fly shops or from friends. There is I small problem with these boxes, when mid stream and having to re-tie tippet, change flies etc. I always tuck my rod under my right arm when i did that the rod often makes contact with the box edge which is a bit crisp. Never thought much of it till I looked at the flat of one of my quad bamboo rods. It did a job on the finish but I fish a lot.
Curiosity got me going. So I just found this Fye Box. I am happy with my vest. The foam is disintegrating. I need to figure out what I will do for foam.
We might take this for granted, but having traveled to fish a good deal - most guides when they hear that someone is from PA and fishes a lot in central PA assume that you’re a stick and can fish lights out. They aren’t wrong, usually.Same 😂
Even the Montana guides passing me on the Bighorn River know exactly where I'm from.
"I bet you're whacking them aren't ya!?"
Maybe. 😁
Naw, never been a fan of anything hanging off me for line to get wrapped around when you’ve got a good one on. These days it’s a couple of fly boxes, my net tucked into the back of my wading belt and my rod….that’s it.![]()

Anybody know if these straps are on, correct? It seems it may come off at some point.
Thanks Bam.NO...
(With the box against your chest facing outward) The LEFT strap should go from the upper attachment and clip to the loop on the bottom RIGHT and the RIGHT strap should go from the upper attachment and clip to the loop on the bottom LEFT.
If done this way, the straps will criss-cross over your back in an "X".
Do yourself a favor and get either a plastic crossover for webbing or fabricate something similar out of a piece of thick leather and put it at the "X" to keep the straps from sliding off your shoulders.
Good fishing!
Thanks again Bam. I'm looking for the cross over thing now. The website you suggested is acting funky.Trapshooter:
If you haven't figured it out already, it isn't particularly hard to leave the straps clipped to the box and put the box on by slipping the straps over your head, (bottom opening #1 first followed by the top opening #2) while poking your arms through the side openings (#3 & #4) in what ever order is your preference.

I've been putting mine on this way forever. When I take it off, I'll undo one clip, slip it off and reattach the clip before putting the box away in my gear bag.

Bam, I appreciate all your help.Strapworks is having website issues, but more than a few places sell those plastic crossovers...
There is a slightly different version that crosses the straps at greater than a 90 degree angle that is used on the back of suspenders worn with traditional Alpine Lederhosen.
Coincidentally, there is actually a store near me that sells them, but their website is down. If you are anywhere near Oley, Berks County, PA the store is called Ernst Licht Embroidery and Imports. You could also try calling them to order at (610) 987-3298.
However if you are handy and have access to some leather or heavy suede, you can probably fabricate one in 10 minutes. I made a crude drawing which is attached below but I think you will get the idea.
You can make yours to more closely match the angle at which the straps cross and just thread them through the slots cut into the leather.
Good luck!
