When did PA turn into Wyoming?

I make house calls. I’ll just put an edge on my Buck Knife and sterilize some nanothread. You won’t miss that finger will you?
Glad it wasn't July. Fridays water was cold enough that after trying to finesse it out for about 5 mins I just put my hand underwater until I couldn't take it any more and yanked the zebra out with a pair of foreceps. Didn't feel a thing 😀

I've posted about this before: The PA-made Handy Pak Net: https://www.handypaknetco.com/

All you need for a blue line and doesn't need to come out for every fish.

I spent some time on a NEPA CL-A Friday. Wind was gusting over 30 MPH but it was still a good day to be on the water. Had to pause a couple of times to let the gust go by but not too bad.

Stuck to heavy stuff mostly - a streamer trailing a midge most of the time. Don't know if I can truly blame the wind for this but but this one didn't quite track the way I wanted it to.

I'm usually very good about de-barbing even the smallest of hooks. I missed this one . . .
My brother doesn’t de-barb his hooks either… I’ve learned to stay on his left if we fish together 😂

That is until your finger return to about normal body temperature?

It wasn't too bad in Central PA today. I fished for a bit and landed three wild browns. I will take it.

Here is my beef, though. On the one stream I was on, as I was leaving I drove by two fly anglers either getting in or out of their car. They had nets that could have reached the entire way across the stream. Why does everyone need a net with a 3 foot handle on it these days?
for netting HAWGS.

No but really, I do run a mid length Nomad which is I believe 37" total length (hoop included). Now I wont take it to small water with small fish, but I fish it everywhere else. For me this length toed the line very well between a boat net and a wade net while I was guiding, so it ultimately came down to versatility, and the fact that I didn't want to own 5 nets for different jobs because I was a voluntarily poor troutbum in my mid twenties. I also usually carry a sling pack, and the longer handle makes the net ride in my pack very nicely so I can whip it out like a samurai sword at a moments notice.

The extra length makes it double as a good wading staff in a pinch. Also, I fish my 11ft 2wt trout spey a lot, and when that tip is 15 feet in the air trying to swing one in against current, a little extra reach really helps protect the fish and my rod. I would think the euro crown might sympathize with this with the CB whips they fish too.

So in a word I guess- "preference"

This was a fun day. Once I let my brother know that he had hooked my face and to stop trying to cast, we worked for over half an hour trying to get the hook out. I finally had him just cut his line and we fished a couple more hours. Of course, he bitched that he had to re-tie.

When we got back to my house, I was just done with it and told my brother to use forceps and get it out. Well, his forceps are heavier than most pairs of pliers... He locked them on, then started to laugh so hard that he doubled over and dropped the forceps. It was REAL fun having the heavy forceps hanging off of the barbed fly that was imbedded in my check. I can only imagine what the scene in my driveway looked like as my brother broke into a fit of laughter and I tried to get the forceps off of my check! By then, I was done, so I stood in front of a bathroom mirror and just popped the fly out of my face. Brothers... And, he's mainly a bait/spin fisherman to boot!

In regards to long handled nets...

I RARELY carry a net however I use several different collapsible long handled nets at places I fish where I either don't wade (places like the Letort or Big Springs), or barely wade because it is just SO much easier than bending or kneeling down to try and net a fish.

All of these nets still fold up pretty small (around 20") and are carried in a scabbard so they don't get tangled in brush. To extend them all it takes is a quick flip or in the case of one net that is automatic, the pressing of a button.

However IF I am in the water and decide I want to carry a net, it is a short handled version (also collapsible) because they are so compact and easier to carry.

At first I used a short curved net that proved annoyingly small, then I bought a 3ft net because I listened to somebody - and later discovered that was a ridiculous nuisance - and now use the 2ft net I should have started with 🤦‍♂️
