Square tail = BT tooIf there are spots on the tail, it would be a rainbow, but I didn't see any, so I think brown, but the coloration is really weird.

Thank you! It was an absolutely stunning fish and way bigger of a fish than I ever expected to pull out of a tiny hole! And it fought like a champ! Such a fun fish to catch!IMHO its a really cool colored wild brown. Regardless, its a nice fish, did it fight as good as it looks?
My IPhone 8 takes beautiful pics, that exactly reproduces the colors of any trout I take pics of.Photos are nearly impossible to capture fish color accurately.
Thanks man, I agree that it is often hard to capture the true colors of the fish with a phone camera. That is super neat, I haven't had the opportunity to fish central PA yet, but definitely plan to! thanks for the comment.Photos are nearly impossible to capture fish color accurately. I have seen quite a few deep golden, orange browns come out of a certain central pa private hatchery. When the fish roll in the water you think you have a golden rainbow on.
Neat fish
Wow! that is a very red brown, super pretty fish!It happens...
Not as red, WAY more spots but this brown was almost completely red on its belly and the tail and anal fin.

Not much of a hooked jaw.Hey guys, I was recently fishing a small creek in Northwest PA that holds a good population of wild brown trout, and I caught this absolute beaut. I first thought it was just a very colorful brown, but after talking to a buddy who works in wildlife conservation and knows much more about trout genetics than I do, he says this may potentially be a rainbow due to the smaller/shorter jaw size and head along with the green color back transitioning into pink sides. The minimal spots along the back and sides are really what’s throwing me off. Any input on this beautiful fish would be appreciated! I’m just trying to figure out what this guy is haha. Thanks guys, looking forward to the responses.
Yep, it's a big stocked digi brown, but a good looking one. I'm sure that young lad was more than happy catching it.View attachment 1641241295
Heres a photo of a very colorful brown that I believe came from a central pa private hatchery. I believe it to stocked due to spot pattern and scarring at insertion point of all fins. Regardless the young kid that caught it was ecstatic and its a beautiful fish.
They can.No cutties here, but if your insinuating that a brown and rainbow mixed, they can't.

NW Pa is an area that I'm definitely deficient in my knowledge especially of small streams.Thats a great fish. NW PA has some gems and it seems like there are more and more wild brown trout swimming around in small streams in those watersheds than ever. Was it a streamer eater?
