>>>What Are You Tying Today? Part VI

If that’s messy, then I have a long way to go to achieve messy. 👍View attachment 1641238935
Very messy first attempt at a Zoo Cougar, but I imagine it'll fish.

Shout out to that time I said tying cleaner was my resolution but then I drank a bunch of beers and continued to make a mess.

Ha. Thanks. The head was supposed to be a good deal more substantial. I ran into some issues with crowding the eye and had to take a razor to hack away maybe 30% of the deer hair I had spun on. Was not ideal

Tad bit sloppy, but happy with it for my first time tying it this small

The other way, this way you change colors. I also do these for musky/ pike flys

Lake Edward

Tag - Gold tinsel
Tail - Yellow quill sections
Ribbing - Gold tinsel
Body - Light brown wool or fur
Hackle - Scarlet
Wing - Yellow, dark blue, mottled brown turkey *

Don Bastian Note

* Referring to the Prime Directive of Married Wings (see the Ferguson, No. 103, Plate 3), the Lake Edward is another fly with mottled turkey and other colors in a married wing. To maintain uniformity of texture, use goose shoulder when marrying turkey in wet fly wings.

Trout - Ray Bergman

Wooly bugger, Partridge H1AXL #18. I’m pretty happy with my tying, but I think the tail may be too long as I haven’t seen any discussion of proportions.

How long should it be? A hook length or more? Does it matter? This one may be 2x hook, lol.

I would probably shorten up the tail a bit - maybe closer to a hook shank in length. One with a tail that long may be much more susceptible to short strikes. Nice job on that little bugger!
