Chota told me that breathable waders that develop moisture wicking through the fabric (as opposed to an outright leak) can be remedied by treating the outside with Scotchguard. I know when it's time to do the treatment when I see the outside darken from water absorption.

However, the original Scotchguard formula is not available, so I wonder if anyone has experience with a good replacement? I see REI has a bunch of tent waterproofers, and there is the new 3M replacement. Cabela's also has their own brand.

Les,

No need to consult with a chemical engineer.... Try washing them first with a powdered detergent on the gentle cycle. While wet, spray the waders completely with REVIVEX. Some recommend putting the waders in the dryer, I've found using a hair dryer works best. The heat sets the DWR coating into the fabric. It really works.

Tom - great info. Are there particular models of Revivex best suited for breathable waders? I see one for "Soft Shells""

McNett ReviveX Spray-On, 10oz, Water Repellent for Soft Shells

Do not put waders in the dryer. According to Simms website you will damage the neoprene booty.
