Water To Trout Fish Now

This whole chain reminds me of an SNL routine:

LMB and SMB below a certain size (say 15" or so) are just as good eating as bluegills, IMO. This makes sense given that bass are just overgrown sunfish. Bass from cooler waters (either species) are even decent a few inches longer than 15".

Back when I was a kid and the min size was 9", I must have eaten a pickup truck full of bass fillets, mostly largemouth between 9" and 14". They were really good...
Back before C&R on the Susky, a buddy fried up a couple of smallmouth we had caught for dinner. They were some of the best tasting fish I've ever eaten.

50% cuz it's good fish. 50% cuz it's fresh. Fresh, I'd eat almost any fish other than a Jersey Bluefish.

Funny coloration on the trouts this time of year

The Hudson must have been at least 80 tonight. Pure bathwater. Thankfully, the air temp dropped 10 degrees to 83 today, though.

Lol lol lol sry i dont agree
Don’t agree that it is cold, or that it is marginal? Perhaps I used marginal in the wrong context. It’s cold and has a low density of fish with very little holding structure. I’m not saying there are no fish - I’ve never been skunked there. It’s just not full of fish like other tailwaters.

LMB & SMB are delicious.
Dear jifigz,

I will agree with one caveat. Put 'em on ice in the boat. Any fish is great when caught and thrown on ice immediately, even them Jersey Bluefish Tom Gamber talked about. I'm the guy that eats the dark meat on a bluefish that was iced down. But I'm a "mackerel snapper" so that kind of explains that. 😉

Tim Murphy 🙂

Tim,
When I'm out to keep fish, that's how I do it. Catch em and immediately put em on ice. I carry a cooler with lots of ice just for the fish.
