I am looking for a good quality but under $100.00 waistpack for steelhead fishing. What do some of you guys on here recommend. Links or pics would be appreciated.

Thanks guys those are some nice packs. I like the old school pack.

Simms dry creek pack is great. Keeps the rain and snow out. When wading deep, if the bottom of the pack gets in the water your gear doesn't get soaked!

I concur, though the zipper did fail pretty early on for me.

I have the William Joseph pack as shown in the 1st link above. I use it as my steelhead pack and I like it very much. Sometimes I tend to weigh it down with too much crap and it feels like it slides down and I need to keep tightening it, but other than that it is great. Zingers built in, tippet holders, plenty of inner mesh storage pockets, 2 water bottle holders.

Do you guys like the magnetic zippers? I am afraid to lose gear with those. I would prefer a zipper but if you all like the magnets I may give it a shot.

Thanks again for the responses. There are so many packs out there it is hard to choose.

I have the Sage large Typhoon waist pack. It is over your price point, but the small is close and probably can be found under $100 if you shop around. If it is as good as the large, it is worth considering.

Fish pond has some great stuff. Lasts for ever

I have used this one for a year or so with no problem. I really like the rigid back of the main pouch. This will ensure the main compartments are easily accessible and visible.

The only thing I did not like about it is the lack of a water bottle holder which I fixed by purchasing something like this http://compare.ebay.com/like/200680531118?_lwgsi=y&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar from ll beans and attaching it with a caribeaner

love the magnets...was very skeptical for the same reasons as you stated. I have taken it on 100+ trips and never had it open by itself....(sometimes i leave it open from stupidity but even then when walking sometimes it closes itself.
magnets are plenty strong and it makes it nice when your hands are cold.

I would look at the Fishpond WaterDance Guide Pack.....LOVE IT and it is right at $100. Also look at the Fishpond Blue River.....another great pack!!!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I settled for this one from LLBean. for the price and size 450 cu. inches you can't go wrong..I hope.

its a good waist pack you will enjoy it

Brian,

Is there a waterproof pouch on that pack. I heard there was but I couldn't find anything in the description?

one of the side pouches is "waterproof" I have never tested this though. also i think the front pouch as a waterproof zipper but i don't believe it has a rubber liner inside like the side pouch

I've been using a Simms headwaters pack for over a year, love it.

The Fishpond Arroyo Chestpack is a great one. It's small but has enough storage for just about any daytrip, and it can be slung over the shoulder or worn on the chest.
