I don’t know why Amazon has these listed for less than half what they cost elsewhere, but I bought a pair and they appear to be the real deal. $33 each, with free (slow, two week) shipping, seller is “Amazon Japan.”

Only the size fine are stupid cheap, but if you need (want!) some, grab ‘em.

What does the "fine" size refer to with regard to bobbin holders? The tube size? What are the benefits to having a finer tube size?

I have two bobbin holders: one with a very narrow tube (that's annoying as hell so I don't use it anymore) and one with a broader tube (that I use for everything).

Tube size. The tube is very narrow, so I guess you would hate these.

As for the advantages, I’m too inexperienced to say. All I know is that I pretty much only use 50d or 70d gsp thread, and the fine tube works well for me.

There are also Tiemco heavy duty ceramic curved bobbins there on Amazon from the same Japanese source for $26.88, which also appears to be a good price. I’ve never used the curved Tiemco bobbin, but I do have the straight heavy duty ones which are very nice. The heavy duty bobbins have a larger tube size.

Make sure you do hw and check reviews. A lot of things to good to be true on Amazon are just that. There are lots of examples of fake outdoor gear being sold. I personally know people who have bought fake leupold optics, fake rage broadheads, fake name brand sunglasses and flaghlights for a few examples

I've never owned a fancy $20+ bobbin. Am I missing out?

Though Amazon is littered with fake products, and I respect your caution, I feel confident that these are genuine.

They’re sold by Amazon, not another vendor, and the picture above was taken by me of one of the two that I purchased myself. I’m also not the only person to have noticed the weirdly low price.

Okay. I figured it out. Nope, it isn't worth it. I will stick the the Dr. Slick economy bobbins for like $7.
I feel you. I bought some Lamson reels and later found some super cheap Chinese reels I like much better (I’m pretty sure they’re Echo Base reels without the Echo logo and for half the price), and don’t foresee a time when I’ll be paying up for fancier reels.
