I want to try some Veevus thread but not sure what size to get. I currently use UTC 70. What Veevus size is comparable to the 70 denier?

Thanks!

I believe 10/0. I have some of their 12/0 and 14/0. Very strong (my experience) and good for tying small flies.

I have some in 14/0 and I would say it's comparable, maybe a little finer. I like tying with it

Nfrechet, a member of the forum, created this chart some time ago:

Breaking Strength:

Danville 6/0 = around 450g
Gudebrod 6/0 = around 920g
UNI 6/0 = around 930g
veevus 6/0 = above 1kg

UNI 8/0 = around 450g
Gudebrod 8/0 = around 450g
UTC 140 = around 935g
veevus 8/0 = above 1kg

Gudebrod 10/0 = around 270g
UTC 70 = around 453g
Benecchi 10/0 = around 680g
veevus 10/0 = around 800g

Benecchi 12/0 = around 450g
veevus 12/0 = around 530g

Griffiths 14/0 = around 450g
veevus 14/0 = around 520g

I break out the Veevus once I get smaller than sz22, and it is surprisingly strong. That being said, until just now looking, I only have a couple spools in 10/0 to 14/0. I'll have to get some of their larger diameters.

I use veevus 16/0 for olives, tricos and midges smaller than 20. But veevus power 140 is my go to for streamer tying now. I still use utc threads alot though, but 10/0-14/0 veevus is my most used threat for nymphs and dries. Stuff is very strong.

12/0 works for me

I have and do use Veevus thread. But the last couple of years I am using mostly Euro thread in 12/0. Very strong and lays very flat.

GenCon

If you like Veevus, you should consider giving Sheer Gordon Griffiths threads a try. Both excellent for tying smaller flies.
