About 7 years ago i brutally injured my right leg in a work accident. Without going into the complete detail, faulty machinary lead to me crushing my leg between a solid iron pot holding iron slag and another iron pot holding hot iron slag.

I could not move as it crushed and pinned my femur about 5" above the knee on the inside of my leg down to past my knee half way down the side of my calf. Estimated weight with machinary and slag was 20,000 pounds or more.
My leg was completely black from brusing in the area. I mean completely.
Lucky nothing broken, nothing severed and no ligament damage. My wife, myself, my job and the doctors were shocked i had very little real damage. It took nearly 2 or 3 months before all the bruising was gone.

I returned to work 3 days after the accident. Pretty amazing.

However a few months ago i was getting slight cramps in that leg. Lasted a few days, then one morning i woke up and got out of bed. My leg hurt and i looked down and large veins were buldging. I seriously thought i had multiple blood clots. You should see it, not really, but it looks very bad. I went and had ultrasounds done, and it turns out im not pregnant and i dont have clots.

To be exact, I'm 42 and have the leg of a 90 year old now. The damage caused the veins to go varicose. At sone point i will have to do stripping and all the fun stuff but in the mean time i can use compression socks etc....

Still some days this thing makes my leg cramp, hurt some and be otherwise bothersome.

Do you guys have any recommendations on things i can do to combat this. Hemp oil? Anything?

I can see this really affecting wading in strong current.
Time to get a wading [d]walker[/d] staff i guess.

Ty for any help.

I'm not a medical person but do know a few people who have gotten stints put in the veins in their legs. Hope you get better info and get better.

They don't strip anymore, at least not the painful stripping. They cut the veins (top and bottom). Fairly easy procedure with limited recovery.

Most insurance companies require you to use the compression socks for around 3 months and if they don't help, they will authorize surgery.

Really?
That sounds like great news. My doctor told me to check back in a few months.
Maybe that is why. He brought up the stripping but maybe from being used to using old terminology.

Ty for that ray of good news miller.

Do you do any stretching, in general?

I have no experience with your particular issue - so maybe worth writing this idea off - but my instinct right away was that some regular light yoga could help short-term with the cramping and any mobility issues.

Cursory googling shows some vein-focused websites have published articles promoting yoga for varicose vein relief, though I can't speak to how legit this info is; I'm no specialist.

I use complete amateurish home yoga to combat sciatica-like pain that sometimes seems connected to wading muscle strain (amongst other triggers).

There are several vascular/vein treatment places around the burgh.

My wife went to one of them to have hers treated.
They gave her injections periodically that slowly made them disappear.
Seen to recall it taking quite a few months - maybe even a year - to clear them up.

That was at least 10 years ago.
So, maybe they have a better way of doing it now

Compression socks work well but leggings are a different matter as they always slide down.
