I would like to know your favorite fly tying books. Beginner skill level.

I know its not a book but I have learned a ton by watching tying video's on youtube. I just wanted to put that out as something to consider.

Back in March I did a review of the two most popular books for beginners.

Charlie Craven's Basic Fly Tying By Charlie Craven - 2008
Hardcover # of pages: 280
Amazon Price - $27.95:
# of fly patterns including variations: 89

The Benchside Introduction to Fly Tying By Ted Leeson and Jim Schollneyer - 2006

Hardcover Spiral # of pages: 189
Amazon Price - $32.93
# of fly patterns including variations: 111

Here's the thread:

Fly Tying Books for Beginners

Thank you. This is good information.

^^ for The Benchside Introduction to Fly Tying

So found a good deal on used copy of "Charlie Craven's Basic Fly Tying" because I heard a podcast with Charlie and like the progression of skills you go through by working from the front of the book to the back. I have been tying a little for a couple of years by watching youtube and other free sources. But I am an eternal beginner. Hopefully the very detailed instructions will up my game a little and help me enjoy tying more. So first up is the brassy! I plan on tying a dozen each of 16, 18 and 20 this weekend!

Notan, if you can post any pictures you'll get instructional comments from the more experienced tyers.

no patterns but a ton of techniques needed to tie patterns

I will post some pictures for sure...maybe.

The Fly tyers Benchside Reference has been highly reccomended. If/when I exhaust the Craven book I will move onto that.
