Top 10 Trout Streams in PA (only name brands)

Closed for the season, or closed period? They always seemed to be doing a decent business between subs and ice cream. Bummer if so.

Yes to Wellsboro House. Great bacon cheeseburger and salt/pepper fries. One of our favorite spots in Wellsboro. We like the Gas Light for wings. Tony’s pizza is good too.

We really like the Barrel in Ansonia too, cheesesteak tossed in wing sauce is great, but when we’re staying in town we enjoy walking to dinner. Wellsboro House gets a stop pretty much every time we’re up.

Edit: Found a WH pic. November 2023. Didn’t realize it’s been that long since I was there. Need to remedy that.

Brickhouse change it's name to The Brown Bull. It looks like it's opening in the spring. I think it's just outside walkup service. There is a card collecter in the main part now.

Hopefully the subs are the same or similar. And hopefully they don’t switch to Hershey’s.

Mayo is pretty gross on most Italian meats. Might as well put butter on it.

Yeah, you’re either a mayo guy or not. (I do like it.) Was more just saying you won’t get a load of junk by asking for mayo on it around Philly.

Yinzer here.....

They are hoagies. They are assembled on a bun, rolls are for buttering at Thanksgiving. Italian dressing on Italian hoagies, mayo on turkey. American cheese is disgusting in any format.

Carry on.

...But, some of the pizza places that bake their own bread are also very good. Different yes, but good in their own way...

Two hoagie WTF moments for me was getting a so-called hoagie at Brother's Pizza in Newville on a Big Springs excursion back in the 1980's. At that time (not sure about now) they made their own "rolls."

Being not too long removed from Delco, I never saw or heard of such a thing but as I was hungry and it was dinnertime in Newville in the 1980's, I ate it and tried to forget. However, it taught me the tell-tale signs of "in-house" baked rolls.

The other moment was being in Providence, RI years earlier and finding out I didn't want a hoagie, I wanted a "wedge." 😳

When I was kid, my go-to was a roast beef "hoagie"consisting of roast beef, lettuce, tomato, and sharp provolone with mayo & sweet peppers. I liked the mayo the deli owner used so much, (some food service brand) that he got me a huge gallon jar for home use.

BTW - If you like mayo, find someplace that uses extra heavy mayo...

Not a big mayo fan. However, my grandmother passed down a recipe for jarring hot cherry peppers in olive oil. They were HOT. But if you put them on a sandwich with mayo, the flavor came thru and the heat was neutralized.
Great on roast beef sandwich

This might be one of the most absurd things I have EVER READ ON THIS FORUM!

Cooper cheese, which is a type of American, is absolutely unbelievable in so many applications. Clearfield is okay, and I wish I could say it was as good as Cooper since I am a PA guy, but it just isn't. But Cooper, hot dang!

It's only downfall is that, if sliced thin, it can be very hard to get apart.

I don't think I have ever had Cooper. Ill look for it and give it a shot.

In my mind, American cheese = Velveeta. Gross.

My wife is a bit of a cheese aficionado, and she insists that I call Cooper “cheese product” and not cheese. She can call it whatever she wants. It’s good.

Pasteurized process cheese food.

If the name needs qualifiers, probably not the best stuff to eat.

Ok it tastes good but that's not a prerequisite. Engineered food is not quality food, unless the engineer is the guy upstairs ^

I am fine calling it "cheese product." There is just nothing that compares to the meltability and flavor that it provides.

I will be the voice of dissent on this. Yes, most processed food is probably not great for us, but processed foods have done far more to help humanity than they have to hurt humanity. Modified grain crops have increased production to the point where we are able to continue to feed the burgeoning population of the world. Also, modified crops have likely saved failures due to drought, pests, diseases and bights, etc. Shelf-stable foods that can last a long, long time are an amazing convenience and security to life that we should all be thankful for. It is good we still have an abundance of these foods today in case of an emergency.

I am not advocating living off of the stuff, but I also don't think it needs to be demonized like it is nowadays. I think that sloth-like lifestyles and too many calories in the form of soda-pops are probably more to blame than anything for our unhealthy society. People sit on their arses too much and do too little.

Just my 0.02 cents, not that anyone asked for it.
