When my son gets to the point I just guide his hand and reinforce the angle needed to not hit the tip and break the thread.

Pencil eraser from an actual pencil if the hook is big enough.

Yeah we vave it a shot. Not yet, she cant hold the bobin yet. So I tied a feather duster looking thing n she was happy with that. Cut the hook piont off, then made  a fly rod type thing with a random blank tip section, some yarn and tied the fly to it. We will see how that goes.
