Hello All,

I was hoping to get some insight into what streamer boxes you all use on the water (and maybe even off!). I currently have a MFC box the size of my hand, but I find the feathers get crunched when I close the box indicating to me I need a longer box.

Thank you and I look forward to for suggestions!

I was just watching a Hardman fishing video, where he was using one of those plastic Craftsman electric drill containers to store his streamers. Not exactly compact, but he had some BIG streamers!

I just toss 'em in Plano boxes. Yes they kinda get jumbled together, but the basic Plano boxes hold a lot of flies. The foam/slit streamer boxes definitely keep things neat and organized, but simply don't hold the volume of flies I want to have with me unless you get a giant box which become impractical for wade fishing.

I typically store mine in the upper jaw of large Brown Trout.

Edit: I just use the normal slit foam boxes and just deal with the feathers. Though I organize my boxes different than most. I organize by stream type, and the stuff I generally use on that kind of stream. So I only have to carry one box at a time with me. So I have a small handful of streamers in each box. Not a box full of streamers. If that makes sense. So I tend to have less feather issues since there’s less feathers to start with.

So here’s my small stream box, for example. This is the box I fish out of the most. It’s also the box I take backpack camping with me usually, so there’s some extraordinarily large stuff in there for night fishing, or if I’m along a WW stream. Though it’s seldom used admittedly. Normal medium-ish size box, FWIW.

It’s also not normally in this good of shape.
Had a few days off work over the holidays and did some housekeeping and routine maintenance.

Doesn't that get smelly after awhile?

No worse than the back panel of my pack at the end of Summer. Open to any and all suggestions on that. (But start a new thread. I’ll see it.)

The trick is to only momentarily store it there. Then find a new fish to store it in, momentarily, and so on. 😉

You need to replace those chartreuse mops with green weenies. 🤷🏿‍♀️

Oh I like me some mops the morning after a Tstorm.

There’s a few weenies in there to use on a dry/dropper, but I think a mop is a superior version of the weenie. Unless you need to be light/stealthy for some reason. Then the weenie wins.

I'm a weenie purist.. I've never caught a fish on the mop.

They’re dynamite in Summer in dirty water on wild Browns. And they’re a close second to the egg on fresh stockies. I just alternate between the two.

Here's one of my small stream (it's all I fish) boxes, which always has a good supply of Weenies. I've had some steller days fishing them. My organization sometimes leaves a bit to be desired.

I just got into streamer fishing and I’ve been using a Teton Streamer Vault, got it from Galloup’s Slide Inn. Looks great and feels solid but it was a little smaller than I envisioned it when I bought it

It’s funny. We all have the same (or similar) flies. We all just like to organize them different.

Hey all,

Thanks for the great suggestions and the comments. It was also cool seeing everyone's boxes, which gave me some inspiration for some flys I need to pick up!

I ended picking up a kingfisher fly box on amazon, and it is absolutely massive, basically a suitcase.

Cheers.
