New state record flathead was caught I the Skuke 56.3 lbs ......

That's a biggie and caught in Philly city limits makes it interesting.

I doubt this record will stand for long and I suspect, as we move into summer, a bunch of upper-50lb contenders start showing up.

You know a 50lb catfish doesn't get full from eating crawfish .
 
Seen bigger. Once in person the other time in a video. Video one was 63 on a digital scale.
 
Maybe, but this was a certified scale.

The forage base is very good in the lower Schuylkill for a large fish like that....gizzard shad, herring, other catfish, white suckers, carp, quillback....and, once again, especially the gizzard shad. They are trophy size in the Delaware and Schuylkill.
