Spot finder fees. First I have heard of such a thing

I have an old GPS unit I used before I had a cell phone. The thing is loaded with fishing spots all over PA and NY that are hard to find. I wonder what I can get for it?

Yeah, probably the majority, but there are some quality channels out there that are just doing it for fun or to be helpful.

Andy Leitzinger....if you have never checked out his videos you are missing some good stuff:

Yes, George Daniel is a brand name but I don't get the impression he is trying too hard with his youtube channel:

Jim Misura is far from a douche:

I don't think Scott is trying to sell anything, just seems like a guy that is excited about fishing and wants to share:

Western PA Flyfisher is another guy that is just sharing his experience:
Ego plays a role for sure. If you actually meet some of them on the water their real personalities are not so generous as their Youtube personas I can tell you that. Some of these guys have singlehandedly ruined good streams by publicizing them, even when they do not name the streams. (It is usually easy to figure out.) One of these guys you mentioned actually regrets it. He told me so.

He told me so.
Did you call him a douche? 🤣

I get what you are saying. Hell, when I watch videos of people fishing I am not really paying attention to what they talking about, I am seeing if I am familiar with where they are and how they are working the water. Im sure you noticed all the ones I posted are from PA and fish where I do for the most part.

Reminds me of a certain guide from nwpa who schlepped off and joined the Beaver closing down 3 sections of Steelhead water. Than when he was barred wanted to be let back into the Lunch box fishermen. Wrote a book and a section of a book to monetize his fishing.
There are schleps everywhere.

I hate to be contrary but he fishes areas containing perhaps millions of square miles. To me it’s not like spot burning a Brookie stream in Berks County. I agree it’s like hiring a guide. I won’t buy anything from him but I guess he has a right to do it. Not very much different from Capitalism IMO.
Wait, there are brookie streams in Berks County? Tell me where, please tell me where.

Dear jifigz,

In today's world I can understand the people who demand immediate results and/or satisfaction.

I faithfully do my best to avoid them like the plague. To me doing anything in one of my hobbies, be that fishing or photography or something else, the journey is where I derive the bulk of my personal pleasure. I like to noodle things out on my own and don't mind failure while working to achieve success. That's something that was ingrained in me long ago by my parents who had it ingrained into them like it is supposed to be.

It's one thing to ask for help and advice from someone acknowledged to be more skilled, but to demand immediate answers by paying for them makes one someone I'd rather not be around.

Signed, your old fart friend,

Tim Murphy 🙂
I could not agree more. There is intrinsic value in such things that such people will never understand.

I'm still wondering about the legality of it. He is basically selling spots on public waters that he can't control any access to. Is this considered guiding/outfitting or just taking advantage of having some knowledge and selling it like a guide book?
I totally agree that this is ridiculous, but don't guides do the same thing for lesser fees? They take their clients to public waters. Some even have their "secret spots".

I have known Jim Misura since 2013. I have fished with him and learned a lot. He loves fly fishing and will share his experience with others.

Scott Majors is someone I would love to meet. He fishes and hunts year around. He is doing what he loves.

I have seen the others mentioned above, but only in seeing the channel.

Do you know if Jim is doing okay? He hasn't posted in a long time.

Last I talked to him, he was fine. He has come the mindset that he has tied most of the flies on his channel. Maybe he needs some ideas or encouragement. I buy flies from him, because I support what he does. He is a good guy.

I don't know what PA Woods N Water might have for motivation to post the videos, but his videos were invaluable to me when I was first starting out. I didn't have a FF mentor. His older videos about leader and tippet set up, nymph rigs, reading water - all were a huge help. I'd love to run into him someday and thank him.
