Spot finder fees. First I have heard of such a thing

The Internet and social media are ruining our world. Why would anyone pay $600 for a location? He figured these places out, so can anyone else. It's public land. You're not buying access to private water here!
Dear jifigz,

In today's world I can understand the people who demand immediate results and/or satisfaction.

I faithfully do my best to avoid them like the plague. To me doing anything in one of my hobbies, be that fishing or photography or something else, the journey is where I derive the bulk of my personal pleasure. I like to noodle things out on my own and don't mind failure while working to achieve success. That's something that was ingrained in me long ago by my parents who had it ingrained into them like it is supposed to be.

It's one thing to ask for help and advice from someone acknowledged to be more skilled, but to demand immediate answers by paying for them makes one someone I'd rather not be around.

Signed, your old fart friend,

Tim Murphy 🙂

I'm SO glad I don't watch any. or subscribe to any fishing video web channels...

There are already so many things to aggravate me in this world, I really don't need fishing to be one of them. 😉
Yo Bamboozle,

We must be twin sons of different mothers, or at the very least, distant cousins!

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

Likewise. I am a book reader. One in a while I will tune in to the Ask About Fly Fishing Podcast, that is about it.

I’m not giving up good fishing spots for a million dollars. That’s no way to treat a resource you care about. Only share with others who care for the resource.

Be funny if someone did really bad tips as a comedy.

“East Branch Brandywine DH …….stick to the cliff side whenever you see steep banks.”

“You done with school and your education?
Well then you can fish anywhere that has signs, it’s usually marked well …..post-Ed.”

I'm not a fan of this at all.
I can understand why people are upset.

Personally, I even lost more respect in his reply to why he did it.

At least stick to your guns or admit you were wrong. Back peddling, justifying and making excuses to downplay the situation is worse.

Maybe he lost his savings in the stock market crash and needs to get as much back as he can before the effects trickle down into people drastically cutting what they spend on their hobbies.

I think his channel stopped doing as well the last trip is that his videos got monotonous. Every other video was the "best trout stream in the us" or best stream in whatever state, etc. They were staying very long, like 40+ min when they could have easily been kept under 20.

I know I would check some of them out and not watch anymore after a few min, especially the remakes that was just extra footage from his road trip series. At one point and time I watched pretty much every video he published.

Unless you get out there and actually try it…Go fish (or hunt) an area you know little about, you’ll never understand that much of the fun is exploring and figuring things out for yourself. If you’re paying $500 for a GPS pin, you’re missing out on most of the fun, and likely don’t even understand why.
I can understand why people would pay for such information.
If you travel to get there you might not have time for a lot of "low return" exploring.
Or, maybe a person has some physical limitations and wants to know more accessible streams.
I haven't yet watched the video but the prices seem high for what is provided.

Is hiring a guide ethical?
Seems this guy is offering part of what a guide does.
Personally, I'd rather hire a guide.
I'd learn a lot more.
And I'm sure be more successful.
