As the subject says, I'm looking for a source for top quality peacock herl. The stuff I've found locally (both strung and full eyes) leaves a lot to be desired in terms of barbule density. I cannot remember the last time I needed six herls to tie a #14 royal wulff. Thanks in advance.

Maybe try the Hareline 8-10" strung herl. I've done fine with it for a lot of my tying, although I pick up any good looking whole eye feather anytime I find them.

I can't say I've ever been in a spot where all I had was herl so bad that I needed more than 3 strands to get a decent looking Royal Wulff of any size.

Same here, never had a problem buying peacock herl. I’ve never even looked or counted the barbels on a herl. I just buy what ever is hanging on the shelf. I have a pack of Wapsi UV and a generic Cabelas pack, both Strung, and both are fine. Maybe something is chewing on your pack.

the strung herl i bought on ebay seems just fine to me
