Took a few days with a buddy to fish some central PA stream systems. Spent time in the Little J, Bald Eagle, and Penns watersheds. Saw a few fish pairing up on the Little J, but no redds observed anywhere yet. Fish were active and colorful.

Highlight of the trip was a rainbow that charged a streamer from under a log. Had to pass the rod back under the log during a long fight. Fish taped at 27 inches. Colorful with clean fins, and wild bows in the stream, but hard for me to believe a fish that big was wild. Either way, it was a fun catch!

Beautiful fish fall is my favorite time hope to get out if we get the rain there calling for at the end of the month beginning of November

Caught a 16” spent female BT from Kettle Ck last Monday. Only a few eggs remaining in the body cavity. Some male BT and some male RT were releasing milt when being unhooked. These fish were stockies from spring.

In addition, a species of brown lady beetle was swarming in a number of locations and some trout stomachs were packed with them…sometimes as many as 25 or more.

saw a redd on the little J on Saturday in an area that usually has a high number. Just starting to build

Caught a couple hens that looked post- on Penns on Tuesday. No redds but was not fishing the likely areas. Hopefully they don't/didn't become bird food, as it is low, yo. If not bird food, there will be a lot of fish with healed scars and missing chunks this winter.... Death from above!

Since everyone else is killing it, I'll be the Debbie Downer...

I tried to make a run to the Battenkill after work tonight to throw some streamers and p!ss off some pre-spawn fish. I leave work daily at 4:30 - which is already cutting it close to get to the river with light left - but 'round about 4:15 a student I work with who is in crisis shows up to shed some tears in my office. I can't quite find a gentle way to mention I was maybe gonna go fishing and shuffle her on out the door, so I arrive at the river a good half an hour later than I hoped. It's already last light.

No more than 15 minutes into fishing, I snag the Gonga I recently posted on here, and was so jazzed to put in front of fish, on a submerged log. Broken off. As I try to wade over try to retrieve it, I find there's a chest deep trough I hadn't noticed blocking me. I step in to just about the top of my waders, forgetting my phone is in the chest pocket. Phone completely fried.

By the time I work back to a place I can stand comfortably, figure out why the phone is making R2D2 noises I've never heard before, and retie my tippet / fly, it's pitch black.

Maybe 30 minutes of fishing, a big old lost fly, and a $100 insurance deductible for a new phone - living the dream.

At least you know where your fly is, sort of.

You banked some points with the fishing gods I’m sure for what you chose to do at the end of your work day, you just didn’t get to cash them in yet. But you will.

You spent some time with that student in need..thats a good thing in sure they appreciated it... you can always get another good day fishing in... thats what matters you were there for that student
