Should we trust PA fish and Boat with 17 million R.A.W.A dollars a year????

Dave Nihart did touch on this in the middle of the Freeman Run meeting. That wasn't really the point of the meeting, but that's obviously what it was about. There's evidence to support that the cessation of stocking benefits stream-born salmonids. If Montana isn't enough, we've got data here in PA that points to the same thing.
It was known at least as early as the 1940s that ending stocking benefits wild trout. That was when the National Park Service was winding down the hatchery system in Yellowstone Park.

This preceded the founding of Trout Unlimited in 1955. Not even many TUers know this now, but the main issue TU was founded around was advocating for ending stocking over wild trout. And IMHO the founding of TU was very much influenced by the actions and writings of the National Park fisheries biologist who made the changes at Yellowstone.

TU later got into many other things such as riparian buffers, water quality, water quantity, etc. Which is good. But at the beginning, it was founded mainly to advocate for ending stocking over wild trout.
