rod building from DIY cheap to buying the best of the best and putting it all together

I always went with the idea that you should buy the best stuff you can afford, because these things last a lifetime.

Sounds good to me. If you've never made a rod before, just go and buy the very best components you can afford in order to learn on. Because no matter how your first attempt turns out, you'll be reminded about it for your lifetime.
 
well, finished my first complete rod this weekend. and i can say i'm definitely happy with it, as far as building it is concerned. now i have to wait patently until i can get some line for it.... i'll post pics later(prob shoot the rod tonight after fly tying group) along with the renovated version of this thread with embedded videos and what not.
