Rod Advice

For me Sage and Loomis mostly. I never really cared much for the way Winston or Scott cast for me, but they make fine rods. Orvis rods to me were either too slow for my taste, or the faster rods in the line were clunky to me. The new Helios line changed that, but the price is outta sight. They are introducing the "Hydros" line which uses the same blanks as the Helios at a lower price. Still in the $500 range, but not $800! Another fine rod is a Gatti if you can find one.

There are a ton of great rods out there, try as many as you can to find the one that pleases you most. The January FF show in NJ is a great place to test cast a bunch of rods.

Dear Joe,

Ain't it funny how that works?

Once you fish the best of the plastic rods you decide to go back and fish what your PapPap fished?

I know you are a bamboo rod builder but I just fish what PapPap would have fished, South Bend, Heddon and Granger.

I'm not Rolf and while we are both full of something he's full of money and I'm full of ...................... I'll let you guess! ;-)

Tim Murphy :)
