Regulation waters

most of us are. im sure though some are not. regardless....
maybe it is just a 20 percent reduction across the board like maurice has stated in york. i still belive the APW's got more. this is simplily based on my observations. i would still like to know why the numbers are not being released for each stream.

Sure they get more...because they are put there to be harvested. Remember the other camp...the bigger one that drives most of the decision making. Harvest is the driving force behind trout farming. And trout farming is subsidized by the vast majority of trout stamp buyers. Open waters get just a few more trout over the course of a year than the Special reg areas. Keep in mind the special reg areas get an inseason and fall stocking...typically equaling the early stocking. (Preseason 800 + inseason 400 + fall 400 = 1600 fish) A similar reach of open water will get (800 preseason and 800 inseason, first week) and thats it.

Keep in mind that in the example above the 400 inseason is being supplemented by our club in an agreement made when Big Spring closed. I think you will see a greater degree of reliance on Co-op nurserys to augment the stocking numbers cut by the commission in the future. Look at the Breeches, Clarks, anywhere there is a Co-op, folks are crabby about the numbers coming off the trucks. Because in the past the numbers of fish in the creeks were HUGELY inflated. I believe they are relying mor on them now. I hope I am wrong, maybe Mike can clear this up .

Bottom line is the special reg areas got the same cuts as a matter of percentage and if the fish are not spread out, don't blame the commission. It is up to the users to do this. like it or not.

ah my bad :-D i didnt consider fall and inseason stockings.
as i said before.....it wont be the last time im wrong! 😎

I dont know of these in-season stocking dates you speak of? They are for reg-waters only? I know of some clubs that do it, thats all and its for all waters. As for the fall stockings, which are minimal, one would think the winter stockings get atleast that much trout if not more.
I only know what I see. Hopefully things went well yesterday for the hearty souls helping at Clarks. Hopefully the high water spread some of the trout cause I sure doubt they were able to float stock.
Chaz, I do agree with you about the weather. That was a blessing and I'm already figuring on directing my efforts on open water. Probably Stony since its still pretty close to home. Already took off to help on the last stocking of the year up past the gate. Bugger is to get any form of seclusion its an hour bike ride one way. Then a half hour to drive there and the same back, it turns into 3 hours real quick without wetting your line. Kinda hard to do after work.
Guess we'll see what happens in the next month or so. More has yet to be revealed.

I agree with you chaz I still think there are many trout in the creeks. With the little bit of rain we got and the cold temps (lycoming creek, lycoming county was 39degrees at 8:00am opening day....ouch) many have seemed to move down stream and into the bottom of big holes. That is where almost all the fish i caught seemed to go, I fished 4 creeks, in 3 differn't counties on opening day, and caught trout in 3 of the 4, so I can't really complain. I'm not gonna lie getting trout to come up 10-15 feet and smack something took me all day to figure out how to do, but some time you have to mix it up, and get out of your normal groove.

As for the previous post about the baitfisherman catching more trout, I am not so sure. Baitfisherman seemed to be catching nothing, while at one hole on a creek I would rather not name 🙂 there were 10 of us fishing the hole(first day crowds you know how it is), 4 flyfisherman, 1 spinner tosser, and 5 bait tossers, 4 fly guys caught 50-75 fish , spinner tosser caught about 15 released all but 1(guess it goes to show you some people without flyrods do release fish) and the bait guys got nothing??????? now this was the only place I took time to notice and count (approx) but this was in only about an hour or two of fishing. they are out there, and they are eating flies it is just gonna take a little extra this year, the trout are extra finicky.
