Recommendations - Guides in Asheville?

Hi all,

My wife, 1 year old, and I will be going down to spend a week in Asheville around Labor Day at in-laws'. I was thinking that instead of wasting my time poking around by myself in unfamiliar territory, I might hire a guide for a day to take myself and her uncle out (who has enough of a fishing interest to join me but has little FF experience) as a thank you for letting us stay down there. That way someone might be able to give him some instruction and ideally provide him some equipment, and just get me on some fish. It's a great opportunity as her aunt and mother will be there to hang out with the wife and son.

Does anyone know someone they might recommend or where we should look?

both are respectable shops with good guides in Asheville

Curtis wright is on a street with a bunch of "female shop (yarn/knitting shop/clothes/ect) that will keep the wife happy while you BS at the shop

More than likely you will be heading east for trout (Cherokee or the park)

is a great shop over that way with some private water... which might not be a bad thing for a family/in-law trip with little experience and just wants to catch a big fish

Another excellent option is Jeff Wilkins. He is based near Greensboro but has intimate knowledge of all the water near Asheville ,as well as the rest of Western NC, and the South Holston in Tennessee.
He is affable, patient, and very adept at teaching and putting you onto some great fish. Just google Jeff Wilkins Fly Fishing for his information, and good luck

You could take a short drive to Transylvania County and go to the Pisgah National Forest and fish the Davidson. not a bad ride you can either take the parkway or take 64 to 276.
